I think they do. They still have followers, who say they successfully work with the Greek pantheon.
A question, I think, is what happens in a duration when a god has no followers. Whether anyone actually did stop honoring a deity can never truly be known. But do they sleep, and wait to be called upon again? Do they attend to matters, still, as they would without supplication?
It all comes down to personal beliefs. But yes: Many people have a successful religious practice with the Greek gods.
Hypnos still lives! Once I attempted to contact him. I think I may have offended him a bit but before then I was asking for sleep to come swiftly. I heard my own heartbeat of course but I also heard a strong steady heart beat which beat slower than a human's and had a different "feel". It was certainly not my own. The presence of a heart beat signifies life!
It was a fluke. I just tried to communicate with him and it happened. I believe I begun with "Hypnos hear my plea" then I heard the heartbeat until I lost focus.
And prsona I agree with what you said, but in the past they ruled the world.
I have read all of their stories and I know also traditional ones.
And to consider how all the people who live in Greece are entirely christians now,its very strange and mysterious to see those powerful Gods as myths. How they disappeared?
I think this topic will always remain unsolved and very strange.
Chaz, a god is real to the believer. All is mind, after all. Something which cannot be proved or disproved, yet people believe as concretely as the physical world they perceive is a matter of faith, and not fact.
In that sense, yes: Many gods are real. People who follow, worship, or honor them, have successful practices. Many people pray to different gods and receive answers, whether perceived as thoughts, emotions, synchronistic events, or what have you.
There are many Greeks these days who actively worship the Gods of their ancestors. This religion is called Hellenismos by many of its followers and holds regular celebrations of the Greek Gods. You can read about this at:
