This is a thread where I will be posting some of the rituals that either go with the path that I practice or simply are ones that I have been making. I figured this would be a good place to post them and if anyone is interested they can try them out if they are willing to go through the precautions to make sure it is done safely.

Excellent idea! I might pick up doing a little hekau thread similar to this. :3 It would be really cool if we each had out individual "books" of stuff to try/do.

Basic Treatise on the Principle Mechanics of Hermetic Ritual Magick

Premise

From my experience and research in Hermetic Magicks, I have found that the Hermetic Tradition focuses on three fundamental Arts: Astrology, Alchemy, and Theurgy. These three Hermetic Arts when cemented by the 7 Hermetic Principles (or in some modern practices by the expanded 12 Universal Laws) allow for the resources to perform everything from the most miniscule to the most extraordinary feats in Magickal Practice. With that being said, the Hermetic Path is, for the most part, eclectic in the sense that the system for usage of Astrology, Alchemy, and Theurgy often came from much later dates and practices which the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn grouped together under the Hermetic name.

While it is true that the Hermetic Arts add certain directives to the three Hermetic Arts (e.g. completing the Great Work, or Magnum Opus, using the knowledge obtained from Hermetic Alchemy), for the most part the mechanics are scattered across centuries of cultural, religious, and historical pretext which make the practice of one solid Hermetic practice extremely difficult to pinpoint. The primary conclusion that can be drawn from this difficulty is that Hermeticism is by nature and merit of its existence, a framework under which eclectic magickal practice can be cemented through common principles and mechanisms, but which can be implemented and for the purpose of whatever the individual Hermetic may so choose. This is merely my understanding of the Hermetic Arts, and while others may agree, this is essentially how I will be approaching this ancient and diverse path.

As for the application of the Hermetic Arts to ritual, what I suggest is that these three Hermetic Arts can actually be used in conjunction with each other, using the three together for one working while developing the skills necessary for full and proper implementation separately for each.

Synopsis of the Hermetic Arts of Astrology, Alchemy, and Theurgy

The origin of modern science can be traced back to the Hermetic Arts, leading one to conclude that they indeed are deeply rooted in a greater, yet often unspoken, truth of reality from a source often attributed by the ancients being none other than the Egyptian God Tejuti (Romanized to His common name in the Hermetic Tradition as Hermes Trismagistus, or Thrice Great Hermes). That being said, these are ancient arcane sciences that ought to be treated with only the utmost of respect, and may it be known that my attempts to bring together these three Hermetic Arts should not be confused with any attempt to undermine any of the three in their validity, depth, or conclusive mastery over the understanding of the Cosmos.

Before one is able to look at combining any three components, one must first look at each of the three individually to understand what they are, their basic mechanics, and to what end they hope to achieve; only then can true mastery of implementation be applied that will enhance them to unheard of depths.

The Hermetic Art of Astrology

Hermetic Astrology is tied to the origin of all astronomical understanding of the heavens on Earth in ancient times. "As it is above, so too is it below; as it is below, so too is it above," this quotation comes straight from the Emerald Tablets, the origin of our understanding of the Hermetic Arts said to be straight from the Thrice Great Hermes Himself; later study of this text led to the development of what is now called the Hermetic Principles. The quotation above was later coined as the premise for the Hermetic Principle of Correspondance, one of the seven Hermetic Principles.

The Hermetic Principle of Correspondance can best be summarized as everything in the small scale is connected to everything in the largest scale, the Macrocosm is contained within the Microcosm just as the Microcosm is contained with the Macrocosm. This principle is essential to Hermetic Astrology as it resulted in a focus on the motions of the Heavenly Bodies (the Sun, the Moon, and the five bright planets of the Solar System), since it was thought that their motion affected the energies present on planet earth which the knowledgeable Astrologer could implement to their advantage.

The goal of Hermetic Astrology was gaining mastery over the Cosmic forces surrounding us, to learn how they affected us and use that understanding to predict future events, to determine the continuity of extant things, and even to determine the best time to begin new enterprises such as new organizations, journeys, and even when to have children for their best possible future.

From Hermetic Astrology came the knowledge of the Planetary Hours, as well as the Planetary Days (most of the names of the days of the week are directly tied to the planet they govern), which will be mentioned later in the Synthesis.

The Hermetic Art of Alchemy

Hermetic Alchemy goes all the way back to our first understanding of Chemistry, in fact the origin of the word Chemistry came from Alchemy (there is even a text on Spagyric Alchemy which equates the term Alchemy with the term of Parachemistry).

Alchemy in general began with the experimentation of herbs to create poutices and tinctures which were used in medicine, eventually conjecture was made towards the structure and make-up of the body which actually was first made in Classical Greece where the four Principle Elements were tied to the four Humours: Blood (Air), Phlegm (Water), Black Bile (Earth), and Yellow Bile (Fire).

As for Hermetic Alchemy, it is possible that Hermetic Alchemy extends even further before that, but the focus was slightly different; in the ancient world it was thought that the Alchemical Elements were connected both symbolically and esoterically to forces within the Mind and the Soul. With this idea came the idea that chemical processes done chemically could also be done within the self, leading to the idea of Self Transmutation, or the Transmutation of the Soul towards something greater, more akin to the Divine.

Hermetic Alchemy then led to a grand enterprise, one that was nothing short of seeking to turn the flawed mortal soul into a soul worthy of Godhood, one virtually indistinguishable from the Soul of the Ineffable and Eternal Force of Oneness that the Hermetics exalted so much; this pursuit became what is now known as the Magnum Opus, or Great Work which will be gone into at a later time.

A particular form of Alchemy, the one I will be using and referring to in this synthesis is called Spagyric Alchemy, and involves the creation of poultices and tinctures made from extracting minerals from herbs and using them in conjunction to ritual.

The Hermetic Art of Theurgy

Hermetic Theurgy is an ancient practice that can be divided into two categories: Mysticism and Thaumaturgy, neither of which particularly Hermetic by origin, but implemented as a result of the nature of Theurgy itself. Theurgy is both the meditation, contemplation, and expansion upon ones connection with the Divine in whatever presentation it may take for the individual (this part considered is considered Mysticism), and then the usage of this knowledge and connection to perform miraculous workings (called Thaumaturgy). In the case of Hermetic Theurgy it was a desire of union with the One, the Monad, the moment of success in this operation was called Henosis (approaching Oneness).

The Spiritual intermediaries of the Planets, Elements, and the Daemonic and Angelic beings could be classified as Theurgical practice since they are usually assumed agents under a Higher Power; through the spirits, knowledge could be gained which could expand practice (called Gnosis) which would allow the individual to become more and more knowledgeable of the nature of the Divine until they were able to emulate it completely, allowing for the ability to perform incredible works (e.g. Moses parting the Red Sea is considered one of these feats).

In the case of this synthesis, Hermetic Theurgy will be used in the selection of the Spirits and how their forces can be implemented in ritual workings to expand and focus the intent towards the desired results.

Synthesis of the Hermetic Arts of Astrology, Alchemy, and Theurgy in Summary

Here is the basic premise of this synthesis:

Hermetic Astrology provides the optimum time for the working based on the Cosmic forces at work at the time the working would be taking place (Planetary Day during Planetary Hour).

Hermetic Alchemy provides the components used in the working such as the instruments, materials, colors, and symbols, etc. alongside the substance accessed via Spagyric Alchemy for usage in the working as the tincture consumed for the working.

Hermetic Theurgy provides the forces and foci used in conjunction with the Divine Powers to perform the working and essentially provide the energies necessary for its complete and optimum implementation.

The Hermetic Principles provide the how as to the manner in which these Hermetic Arts are to be combined for the optimum results.

(1) The Seven Hermetic Principles

I. Principle of Mentalism

All is Mind, all is one, the basic condition of all existence is mental, within the Mind of the Eternal and Immutable.

II. Principle of Correspondance

As it is above, so too is it below, as it is below, so too is it above;

As it is within, so too is it without, as it is without, so too is it within.

The All is present within all, as is all present within the All, it is this unity of the entire cosmos with self, that the greatest of feats is made possible.

III. Principle of Vibration

The only constant is change, all things are perpetually moving in a state of flux.

IV. Principle of Polarity

To all things, there is an opposite which is similar to the other except of a different degree. To all things their equal and opposite, "Paradox must be reconsiled" as stated in the Kybalion.

V, Principle of Rhythm

The motion of all things carries an ebb and flow, a forward and back, from the greatest cosmic design to the smallest particle, and then back again; all that is dark will become light again, and all that is light will return to darkness only to be illuminated again.

VI. Principle of Causality

To all phenomenon, there is cause, and all action leads to a reaction, however there are many possible Planes of Causality as stated in the Kybalion, so the absense of apparent cause in our Physical Plane is likely due to it being from a higher Plane of Causality.

VII. Principle of Gender

Present in all things, immaterial and material, there is gender. Every Masculine has its complementary Feminine, and all Feminine has its complementary Masculine. Do not mistake these for Male and Female, for Sex, as Male and Female can be classified, is simply how Gender manifests on our plane for the purpose of creating life through their conjunction. The true nature of Gender is far more subtle than anything we can imagine, and allows for an incredible complementarity between all things.

A haven of Light of the Causal Plane, whose radiance is unmatched in Creation

The Golden City where the Angels of our world reside, basked in the brilliance

The Lower Capitol of the Heavens (the Upper Capitol being the Divine Magisterium)

The Sephirothic Plane of Tiphereth is one of eternal beauty and nourishment

Much like the Radiant Sol grants the powers of the Winds and Life to the World

A constant reminder of the glorious powers that lie just out of the reaches of this world

This is also the Heart of the Tree of Life, the bridge between the Upper and Lower Heavens

[Source: http://archangels-and-angels.com/misc/seven_heavens.html]

The Sun Himself

Thus is the radiant Lord Solaris, resplendant and golden luminary whose day is Sunday

The Sephirothic Plane of Geburah of Severity and Chesed of Mercy resides here

This represents the balance of power in the Administration of the Empyrean Powers

Thus is granted the assurance that those in power understand their place in the Design

The Dark Sphere of Da'at lies just above this Sephirothic Plane, but is not a Sephirah itself.

[Source: http://archangels-and-angels.com/misc/seven_heavens.html]

Mars Himself

The General, and the Bearer of Tremendous Force, but also the knowledge of its use

The power of this world is enough to level dynasties and forge great Empires

Whose metal is Iron and whose colors of Crimson Red, and whose day is Tuesday

His sole and Pyretic Sign is that of the Cardinal Aries

Heaven VI. Jupiter of Zebul

This is the Heaven of Intellect and Fear, governed by Diurnal Zebul and Nocturnal Sabath

Through this Heaven emerges the Wisdom of Kings and the Understanding of Power

A world of pertetual storm and snow representing the cold Jupiterian influence of turmoil

Thus does this Heaven represent the calm and poise necessary to weather dysfunction

This is the Sephirothic Plane of Binah of Understanding and Chokmah of Wisdom

Representing the natural dominion of the Mind over all affairs and the Mental Plane

Residence of the Collective Mind and perhaps the Akashic Record can be surmised

But still it must be emphasized that the key to this Heaven is the Wisdom to Lead

[Source: http://archangels-and-angels.com/misc/seven_heavens.html]

Jupiter Himself

So entereth the King, known to the Greeks as Zeus, and the Greatest of the Seven Worlds

Whose colors are those of Supreme Regency, Royal Purples, Exotic Blues both soft and bold

His power lies in matters of Law, Finance, and Free Will, whose day is that of Thor, Thursday.

His Pyretic Sign is the Mutable Sagittarius, and His Aqueous Sign is that of Cardinal Pisces

[Source: http://www.alchemy-works.com/planets_jupiter.html]

Heaven VII. Saturn of Araboth

And so we reach the last of the Seven Heavens, the Upper Citadel of the Divine Magisterium

Here lies the residence of the Magisterial Emperors spoken of in the Ars Theurgia

Connected to the last of the Seven Worlds, Saturn, tied to the ephemerality of Dynasties

All Empires reach their peak and then wane in power, all that is untrue fades away

Thus there is the final Sephirothic Plane of Kether, which lies just below the Zenith

The Domain of Adonai, the Rightful Overseer of the Divine Magisterium

Who wears the Cloak of Light, weilds the Scepter of the Lord, and the Crown of the Heavens

Thus expressing His Dominion over all of Creation within His Isle of Paradise

[Source: http://archangels-and-angels.com/misc/seven_heavens.html]

Saturn Himself

And so there arrives the Reaper of the Worlds, Slayer of Empires, and the true Angel of Death

(5) The Olympic Spirits of the Heavenly Bodies

Introduction of the Olympic Spirits

These are the Seven Planetary Forces, the Olympian Spirits of the Worlds who carry their powers and their majesty. They are the transmitters and Noble Godforms representing the Seven Agencies of Divinity.

1st (Saturnine) Hour: Aratron of the Agency of Transience

Aratron is a Teacher of the Arcane Sciences, especially pertaining to the everchanging nature of things, and thus is master of altering the state of things, including the power to "convert any living thing, plant of animal, into stone" and "change coals into treasure" representing the natural value of all things as priceless from the smallest grain of sand to the largest diamond in the Universe.

He is essentially the orchestrator of the inevitable changes of all things to ensure motion, to bring His influence into your life is to enact change, regardless of its nature, and essentially deals in the balance of Time and Space, accelerating or decelerating the impact of all causality.

Aratron essentially deals in the Principle of Vibration, the idea that all things are perpetually in motion, forever in flux, and thus through the understanding that the rate at which things change is directly tied to their activity (more active bodies change more rapidly), He carries the ability to increase or decrease the Causal Vibration of certain bodies to create additional flux.

One must be extremely wary of working with such a powerful force without good reason

2nd (Jupiterian) Hour: Bethor of the Agency of Sovereignty

Bethor is a bringer of fortune and power, representing and exalting the incredible authority and regality of Jupiter, the largest of the Seven Heavenly Bodies.

He is the embodiment of the force of abundance, both of power and fortune, and represents the fact that all of these things are forever to be in accordance to the Grand Design or be perpetually at risk of being lost forever, and requiring far greater force to come to fruition.

Not only representing the bestowal of royalties, but also the loss of titles and dignities. To all in power, there is a delicate balance and rapport with the governed, for without their trust and the protection of their dignities and natural sovereignty, the destruction of authorities is inevitable.

One ought to be careful in working with this being, or risk being rendered powerless.

3rd (Martian) Hour: Phaleg of the Agency of Potency

The ultimate go to for military aid, Phaleg is the conduit for the power associated with Mars including the forces of Severance, Judgment, and Compensation.

Phaleg represents the catalyst, the intense power necessary to enact will, of change; in essence, He deals with the Alchemical Processes of Calcination (reducing a preexisting order to ash) and Distillation (not Dissolution which involves immersion into the Cosmic Union) since Distillation deals with separating untruths and breaking bonds to release the energy necessary to achieve incredible feats.

Work with Him effectively and you can achieve whatever you put your Will into doing, but be aware that the power that comes from working with Phaleg will likely involve breaking down some barriers, and bonds, in order to free up energy to be used more effectively where it is needed.

But be warned, the abuse of power can have grave consequences, also connected to Mars; if you are not careful and use this tremendous power too frivolously it could cause the unhinging of your entire existence on Earth: separation from your friends, family, job, financial prospects, etc. since the current of this planet tends to break down whatever it can to release energy in the process (sort of like how a flame does not see value except in the fuel that causes it to grow to unseen heights).

4th (Solar) Hour: Och of the Agency of Radiation

Och represents the brilliance of the Sun, and the powers of Divine Illumination

Connected to inspiration of the mind, envigoration of health, and the wealth intellect creates, but also the forces of the intellect, and the natural power carried by all living things to inspire transformation in the Material, Ethereal, Intellectual, and Spiritual Worlds.

Och represents the idea that all things radiate, spreading information and power with them, thus He is tied to the Principle of Causation, since the causation of one event radiates affecting everything around it.

Caution should be taken for those with aspects not desired to be revealed to the light of day since the Sun is connected to Illumination, but also Revelation, Och has the ability to act as a conduit for that revelatory power; if the powers of Och are left in effect without check, then there is the potential for perpetual disclosure of ones most guarded and secretive truths, including details which for some may have disastrous consequences if revealed.

5th (Venereal) Hour: Hagith of the Agency of Attraction

Hagith is a living embodiment of beautification and grace, but primarily of Attraction, primarily dealing in matters of fulfilling desire and ambition, as well as the incredible power that comes from drawing out our passions.

With transmutative properties tied to Copper the Conduit, and Gold the Immortal metals, She is a being representing the powerful forces binding all things, unlike the Martial Phaleg whose strength comes from breaking bonds, Hagith works through the power expended to bring things together and bind them as a coherent whole, also connecting Her to the Alchemical Operation of Conjunction.

She embodies the Hermetic Principles of Gender and Duality, the ideas of natural and harmonizing opposites being drawn to one another, perpetually affecting each other. She is also connected to the Law of Contagion, the principle that once two things are bound together, they are entangled, and thus are perpetually drawn to each other so long as the binding factor remains extant.

Such attractive power can also be dangerous if left unchecked, as it is also possible to accumulate too much, or to realize in retrospect that one's desire was not necessarily what they had hoped for; in other words with Hagith, as the old maxim goes, "Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it."

6th (Mercurial) Hour: Ophiel of the Agency of Communion

Ophiel represents the means of transmitting knowledge and information, and the wisdom gained from both bestowing and receiving counsel, and Gnosis.

Another one of His feats is that He "enables the possessor of His character to change quicksilver immediately into the Philosopher's Stone" [Source 2] which is likely a reference to the power of a being armed with wisdom and the Gnosis (knowledge) attributed to a strong rapport of communication with the Divine allowing for the ability to enrich all things with one's own power.

The power of Ophiel comes from Gnosis, the singularity of Knowledge and Power, and the usage of the Principles of Mentality and of Correspondance since He works from the understanding that since all things are inately mental, that increased knowledge has the power to arm the mind with the power to change the world, while also signifying that by understanding the Microcosm of Existence, it is then possible to understand the Macrocosm.

One must be careful in working with Ophiel, there are some truths that the mind is not ready to handle, and if left unchecked, no illusions are safe from the knowledge of the true nature of all things.

7th (Lunar) Hour: Phul of the Agency of Motion

"Lord of the Powers of the Moon and Supreme Lord of the Waters" [Source 1]

The Moon is the director of the terrestrial rhythm Ebb and Flow of the tides of the Sea, tied to the usage of emotion to dilute or concentrate the effects of Cosmic Forces in the heart and mind of all living things.

Thus the forces of the Moon exert the Hermetic Principle of Rhythm on the world, allowing for a natural cycle to regulate changes and revolutionary forces on Earth; in addition, the forces of Phul are also connected to the Alchemical Operations of Dissolution and Fermentation, the immersion of a construct into a solvent so that its influence can be dilluted whilst increasing its volume, and fermentation due to the imbuement of that same construct with life and then allowing it to rest within a body of unconscious forces.

The power to recede and project the powers of Divinity in our world, but with this power there is also the potential to either dilute natural influences to the point of practically annulling them, and the risk of concentrating an influence to their harmful peak which is only to inevitably lead to their trough shortly after.

(6) The Planetary Rulers

Introduction & Differentiation With the Olympians & Archangels

It is said in the Arbatel that the Olympian Spirits serve under the Archangels, since the Archangels have such a vast domain, the Olympian Spirits act as focal points for the powers of the Planetary Bodies. That being said, there are forces beyond the Archangels that act under the very founding forces of our Cosmic Design itself, and they are many.

The Angels of the Bonorum, the Angels of Brightness, the Unspeakable Names of God, and the Planetary Intelligencia (the Angel, Mind, and Spirit of the Seven Worlds), are all bound together in a rather perplexing manner that shall be described here in separate installations, though it should be noted that these systems are grouped together for a reason.

Together these systems forge a conclusive network of power directly beneath the last set of seven, the Archons.

(6.1) The Powers of the Seven Heavenly Bodies of Creation

Introduction:

The Angels, Intelligences, and Spirits of the Planets act as the raw material forces of the Heavens; these forces are named and given Sigils so that the ruling spirits (as well of the daring among mankind) can wield their powers to aid them in their works.

The Angels will seem familiar, as they ought to, for they are the Archangels, their refrain here is due to the overarching purpose that they serve among the Planetary Forces due to their many roles.

The Intelligences act as the conscience and guiding force of the Worlds and their direction on Earth, so that their essences may be consecrated in our world with the greatest consideration for the Greater Scheme. Without guidance the immense powers of the Worlds would be extremely dangerous, and ultimately far too volatile to be of use to any but the most powerful and exclusive few.

The Spirits of the Worlds may seem redundant due to the existence of the Olympic Spirits (which are essentially the Powers of the Worlds), the Spirits are the worlds themselves, the forces which the Olympic Spirits channel when employed on Earth. Think of the Olympic Spirits as our personal Agents to working with these immense forces.

[An Important Note] : Four Worlds of the Kabbalah

The source given above gives an extensive overview of how to work with these immense beings, but includes what are called the Four Worlds in their employment.

The Four Worlds of the Kabbalah are the Spiritual Atziluth of Kether (The Crown of God); the Mental Bri'ah of Chokmah (Wisdom of God) and Binah (Understanding of God); the Ethereal Yetzirah of Chesed (Mercy of God), Geburah (Severity of God), Tiphereth (Radiant Beauty of God), Netzach (Triumph of God), Hod (Glory of God), and Iesod (The Foundation of God); as lastly the Material Assiah of Malkuth (Kingdom of God).
