Breathing meditation is just a form of meditation. There are different kinds of ways to meditate. There are many benefits of meditation, but spiritually, you will become more calm and accepting. Meditation will also help to tune you into things around you, such as spirits.

i always thought that meditating on the breath is just the newbs version of normal meditation to keep your mind from wondering, and any meditation helps you focus ground and center yourselve and improves your focus and logical thinking, but since you asked for spiritual, i guess it can be used to help astral project

Meditation on the breath is a basic meditation, you can't go wrong with it. Or at least, I hope not!
Moving on, the breathing meditation is a basic meditation. It focuses on meditating on your breathing. This is the first meditation I ever tried, and I go back to it when I need to really concentrate.
First sit into a cross legged position. Second take a moment to ground yourself, imagine your rooted to the ground, I always say! After start closing your eyes, and breath. Try just counting the number of seconds until your breath.
Sometimes your walk, it's a breathing meditation but also, a movement meditation. (Active meditation, by the way). You walk down a block that is quite. You focus your steps to match your breath.
Either or, this is one of the easiest meditations that require no skill, so good luck.
