There is a very serious disease of elm trees, rapidly becoming world-wide.Just about all elms in Britain are dying. The Forestry Commission is working hard to find a cure, but it is very difficult;the disease spreads so fast! And the "cause" is not really known, though it is thought to be spread by a species of wasp. In Britain the situation is very worrying!

Further. The disease is starting to affect other trees, but does not seem to affect evergreens!

The disease is known here as "Dutch Elm Disease" because it was first discovered in Holland. (Netherlands). It is very serious, and there is no known remedy. As you say, it really is terrible!

I also have noticed elms and certain other species (ash, some oaks) that have been sickly. We have really bad Chinese beetle infestations here in the U.S, as well as elm disease. Saddens me to no end, as I have always had a strong connection with trees.

Thats why there are protected forests. A forest is an ecosystem. A perfect example of the circle of life. Sometimes, groves or regions of trees can become infected by white moss. This usualy happens in areas that dont get enough cold or wet weather. Same goes for the bugs. Thats why it is so important to have protected forests in areas where trees thrive, to produce enough oxygen to support the planets population. Which is also self serving to the trees since they use carbon dioxide in photosynthesis. I agree. To notice sick trees can be sad.

We have many wasp and hornets here. That is good to know there may be a link. Fortunately we do not have beetles here but those micoscopic insects that eat the leaves are horrible.

Alienboy, you think you can heal the trees? I'd love to see you do that in Britain. There are thousands of them!
