Ah, olden, you're right. I generally consider that self-control, and I should have thought to encompass it within its own description. Knowing yourself, knowing your reactions, etc. are part of it, and allow you to maintain the mental/emotional state that you desire no matter what you are working with. Similarly, this emotional state can be projected outward to help create this subconscious influence that we seek.

But then, while seeming quite basic, I'm not so certain it is.

This is an excellent post, but I wish to refute the statement: 'Magick, though extraordinary and largely unexplored by modern science, is still rooted within the physics of the world around us.' Modern science has stuck a lot of time and money into Magick and is closing in on breaking major ground on it if they haven't already. 'String Theory' is the closest thing to breaking open magick. The only problem they face is that they are trying to break open something else when they are staring magick right in the face. The problem is that science refuses to publish all of their work with magick and energies they can't explain as it is still considered anti-Christian in this Christian run world. I think a link to a video of string theory would help many see some science behind magick and help people understand that things do exist that we cannot see and how they exist.

I've read through your post and I tend to agree with you, though in some cases you must make the exception.
My grandmother could manipulate the world around her to the extreme simply by saying the right (or the wrong) thing in moments of passion. She was able to summon a hail storm at will just she was angry at my grandfather and his sister's children.
That is why I have always drawn to magick. I've been writing spells since fifth grade, sometimes they worked and sometimes they didn't (depending on how ridiculous it was), though I am finding it hard to do more than making it rain these days.

Thank you so much on posting this; from reading it, I have learned that of course, magic isn't Hollywood smoke and mirrors, but it's more to it, and it does require focus, opening your mind more, and patience. Even as I grow more experienced, I will always come back to this as a refresher. Again, thank you.

I was not on the magic band wagon, but recent events are changing my mind. I, on the challenge of a friend, found a spell on the internet. It was down right silly sounding with lots of ryhming. It was ment to call a snow storm. I did the spell and the next day it snowed and kept snowing. Its actually still snowing (this has been going on for 3 days). I live in tennessee where if it snows a little its different so this is definitly odd. Ive always been able to feel (energy?) Of storms, like when they are gathering and such, and i definatly felt something when I did the spell. Can someone tell me if this is natural (to find a random spell and just be able to do it) or if I'm just making things up?
