Interesting information! Just last night I learned that it is a Chinese tradition, one month after a child is born, to hold a family gathering. The mother paints boiled eggs red, and gives them as gifts to her guests. They symbolise prosperity and fertility. One of the eggs is gently rubbed over the baby's head as a blessing. Great thread :)

I was taught at an early age how to make Ukrainian pysankas (most spell it psyanky but my step family pronounced them pysankas, I'm guessing a plural form?) Anyway, the colors, patterns, and art on each egg has great symbolism, so I can really relate to that chinese tradition. I plan to teach my daughter and husband how to when my daughter gets a little older. Hot wax, needles and flames don't mix with five year olds!

I would say that an egg could be used to rid someone of negativity in their life or home. The mother is a symbol of hearth/home which is protective. Birth is the opposite of death. Creation is opposite to destruction. I think eggs would be a great item to use in a warding ritual.

Eggs are really important to some cultuers. in my expearance with my mentors they used eggs to catch ghost, call back the spirits of people, break spells or curse, fend off bad sprits and keep them away for good, heal pain and sickness by having the egg suck out the bad energy. I remember the time when i became a beliver with on douts, they help a sick girl, she had all these bumbs and worts all over her body and all thay did was boil the egg and roll it over her body chanting, at the end when they crack and peal the egg it was black and all gooy, it was disgusting. They did so ten or so more times of three days a week, for three month and the girl was cure of the worts. It was amazing the egg got clearer and clearer towards the end, now when i hlod an egg i hold it with respect.
