Many cultures believe that all of nature "speaks". But it is not to be taken literally.

Many listen to the wind, some meditate and remain open to the sounds of nature and any thoughts/images they may receive. In modern times, they call this merely our subconscious or "the Self", which is more knowledgeable than our conscious mind and to some, believed to be more connected to our spirit/soul. Connecting to nature is our closest way to connect to the creator or "source" of nature, whatever you believe that to be.

Some cultures believe in animism (that everthing in nature has a spirit). With this belief in mind, one can "connect" to various things in nature (such as a tree), but they don't "talk" or speak any special language. It's more of less stepping into the figurative shoes of that part of nature and letting it's energy combine with your own. Doing this with water is an awesome way to relax, and trees help you to ground well.

It's well known to most gardeners that speaking to, or singing to plants causes them to grow better. So it isn't a bad thing to show your respect to nature by speaking to it. At the very least you'll make a few nature spirits form a liking to you.

We know through science that plants are indeed alive. But from my own experience, the only trees that "talk" are those with spirits nearby or of course your own subconscious thoughts.
