Creating The Right Space

I struggle to detach from the here and now while maintaining a focused mental state any suggestions? I can clear my head with relative ease but getting any farther than that is a struggle for me.

Are you trying to detach from the here and now, or are you trying to detach from the mundane space/state of being?

The second one.

I create a shrine/altar/worship space; whether that be inside or outside. I also do things repetitively; this brings me back to a spiritual center. I'm not really someone with a mundane sphere and a spiritual sphere; my spheres are conjoined after all this time.

It helps that my spirits and Gods are always present in my life.

I agree with Nebethetepet on this one. I create my circle using repetitiveness every single time. My circle consist of the four cardinal points, north, south, east, west. Each direction has it's on colored candle, South red, north, green, east yellow, west blue. Each also has it's on guardian. In my case the shrines belong to the archangels. Uriel south, gabriel north, michael east, raphael west. I go through repetitive step by step instructions from my own personal books to light and summon the four corners and guardians. In the middle of the circle my altar space with two white candles representing spirit. I go to my altar/ desk and pray prayers for the greater keys of solomon to bless my circle. Then I sit and write. What you do is of your own choosing. However, this is far from mundane in a sense.

Good advice so far. Let me add to it that, even though I may not do everything exactly the same every single time like Remedy suggested (once I get into the right mental space, I prefer spontaneity as a lot of the magick I work with are based on creative energies), I sanctify everything. My altar is only used for ritual. My altar cloth, only for ritual. The clothes I wear, the items I use, the incense I burn, the scents and imagery and objects and even the Musick I listen to are all things I only ever use specifically for the purpose of ritual and absolutely nothing else.

Likewise, I have a little "pre-game mini ritual" of sanctifying myself, where I bathe, shave, and apply oils to myself that I only use for the purpose of engaging my magickal state of mind.
