Starter Decks and Such

Hey everyone, long time no see.

A lot has happened since I last went on SoM, but that's besides the point.

I am now currently into divination. I've done readings with the deck I have (it's a Faery deck, I'm not quite sure the name, I received it from a good friend), and I'm pretty much a natural at giving a good reading, but only when I look up the book definition.

The problem is, I can't memorize the cards on this deck. It is just not for beginners. It's a beautiful deck, it works great, but I'm just not reading the language of the deck yet. I need a new deck, something that is great for beginners.

I went to a psychic, and he told me to use the Rider Waite deck. I get that it's great for learning on, but I hate that's it Christian based. I am not Christian, I don't won't to learn on a Christian deck.

Sooo, has anybody learned on something they absolutely loved besides Rider Waite? I'm just being so put off by the fact that it's a TAROT deck, made to be Christian based. Christians aren't supposed to dabble in magicks, what are they doing creating something for divination?

I want something that speaks to me, I have pretty good intuition, it shouldn't be a problem. Maybe something simple like RW would be good, but with a more Egyptian/Greek/Celtic/Norse base. Any would work.

Thanks in advance. Merry part and merry meet again my fellow Pagans/Wiccans/Occultists.

Perfect perfect perfect, Sagira. Crystal Visions, I believe that is exactly what I was looking for. It sticks to the same symbolism as RW but with a Pagan aspect. Thank you so much, I'm definitely drawn to this deck, I don't even feel a need to look further, even though I probably should. It feels like the one though.

The Rider-Waite deck is not a "Christian" deck. There is profound symbolism in those pictures that you could learn to read. Most other decks in the market today are watered down Rider-Waites with prettier colors. I too dislike the Rider-Waite— because it is hideous! But it is heavy with symbolism and very specific design.

Christians have their place in the Occult, though they don't call it Magick a lot of the time. It is called mysticism or priesthood and the work they do is through their God. Beyond that, there is much debate, and while the Rider-Waite has Christian leanings, it is not entirely a Christian based symbology. You also have to remember that many Christian beliefs and practices were borrowed and shaped from various parts of Paganism.

I believe it is a Christian deck. It has Christian symbolism, I don't like it. Christianity has NO place in the occult whatsoever, the bible HATES the occult, so they should stay out of it.

I don't believe Satan is a part of Wicca. I think the Rider Waite deck shows women in a negative light. I don't like it. Don't try to "educate" me, as I already have a formed opinion on the deck, and I would feel uncomfortable using it. I didn't ask, "Should I just use the RW deck, or find something else". I know what I want to do. Thank you, but none of your opinions were called upon.

To everyone else who gave me a valid response, thank you. I think I have found the deck I would like, that is closely related to Rider Waite, and I would feel much more comfortable using it.

Well if you're going to behave that rudely then I think I will make a point of not answering your threads anymore. This is a public forum and people are allowed to post their opinions all they want. If you can't handle that find a private forum or mail people.
