Working magick is common for Wiccans, but it is certainly not nessessary, or the main focus or importance of Wicca. Magick is often what draws people to Wicca in the first place, but for the wrong reasons. If however, you are walking the Wiccan path for the 'right' reasons (see post What Wicca Is and Isn't), then performing magick for positive purposes is fine. Before doing any spellcasting, however, here are some things to consider:

Are you ready?
As I mentioned before, magick attracts a lot of people to Wicca for the wrong reasons. Many people WANT to perform magick, but you yourself know if you are truly ready. Follow that gut instict, not that desire. There are many things you can do to help prepare yourself; meditation, learn more about Wicca and what its truly about (certainly not just magick), and doing other things that Wiccans do.

To Begin
Once you know you are TRULY ready to cast a spell, make sure it is relatively simple. Casting your first spell can be scary and exciting. Know your intent and make sure that you need or strongly desire the postive effect of the spell. Some basic beginner spells are protection, simple healing and many others. As you practise and become more in tune with the Divine, elements and yourself, your skills of performing magick will develop and improve.

Don't give up!
The most common problem for newbie witchs performing magick is discouragement, often caused by the spell 'failing'. This can, and will, happen! Spells don't work at just the snap of your fingers, they are using energy which can be unpredictable. Why didn't your spell 'work'? There are many differnt reasons, self-doubt, wrong materials etc. The largest problem for most is doubt, doubt in magick, doubt in your ability, whatever. This is very common, and something that must be worked on. Keep trying, and practise practise practise! Working magick is a skill that we all possess, but MUST work and develop.

In conclusion, before working magick as a Wiccan, make sure your prepared and start small! Slowly work your way up in spell difficulty as your skills develop. ANd most importantly, DON'T GIVE UP!!!!

I hope this was helpful to some of you. Please messege me if you have any questions, or would just like to talk. Blessed be. :)
