First clear your mind, Close your eyes, focus, and say out-loud. have your object of choice in hand, the more times you say it the better chance of it being more powerful and working.

"This (name the item)is now a shield.
It is for full protection.
This (name the item) will protect against anyone or anything that tries to bring harm to (name the wearer or the location it will be placed- ie. car, home, specific room, e.t.c).
No harm shall come as long as (name the item) remains.
No one shall be able to remove this (name the item) from it's place.
Let this (name the item) remain and protect from this moment on."

Cleanse the object as well and focus positive energy into it as you chant. With that said, this seems plausible. I am not a huge fan of the chant, but that is a me thing. Be sure to recast this regularly. The object will absorb negative energy which will slowly build up. Monthly cleansing and rededications will keep your enchantment strong.
