It depends you could add onto on or you could make one. It's simpler to make one as you can decide what you do and don't need in there

A Book of Shadows/Grimoire/Book of Mirrors/Journal or whatever you want to call it, is a notebook where you record your craft. This could be a spiral notebook, a leather journal, or a Word Document. Whatever works for you. And I am aware this question was from 4 years ago, I noticed nobody actually explained what a Book of Shadows is, and I wanted to clarify. You do not need to spend a ton of money on a fancy book. You could use a three ring binder and down the road, purchase a beautiful notebook to copy your notes into as a family heirloom or coven copy, but it is not necessary. It is your personal notebook of witchcraft. Do not feel obligated to keep a perfect notebook. It is meant to be messy and full of notes. Only the ones you plan to share are pretty. You can also decorate it however you please. Add stickers or sketches. Dry flowers in the pages. Use colourful pens. This is your book. If you chose to purchase a pre-made Book of Shadows, you can, but I encourage you to get one with blank pages, or purchase a second notebook to write in.

This made me laugh. It requires an edit because this is not how you write a spell. Sure, you should write it in your Book of Shadows and give it a name, but this is missing a lot of steps.
  • Determine the purpose for spell
  • What type of spell do you wish to cast
  • Research items that correspond with your intention
  • Gather items, determine best time to cast, spiritually prepare in advance
  • Test the spell to see if it works
  • Record results
  • Make adjust as needed
  • Recast, record and adjust until it works as intended
  • If after all of that, it works, then you would include it in your Book of Shadows. If this seems like an arduous process, you can use spells created by others, or take working spells and tweak them to suit your needs. There is nothing wrong with any of those options. Do what works best for you.
