Absolutely. When one meditates it isn't common to become more aware of your surroundings. You may hear things you wouldn't have otherwise heard if your mind had been distracted. Or you might smell things more clearly. Or you might feel the air moving, or the pressure of your clothes against your skin. Meditating brings us more into the moment so that we are highly aware of our surroundings.
It's called sensory accuity and is a common affect when in an altered state of sonsciousness. The mind is use to doing a number of things at once and allocates mental energy for that purpose. When you slow down the mind there is an excess of mental energy. So your mind naturally directs it to your sences. It means you went into a trance stste. Good for you! Keep going.
