Of course it exists. It's obvious you don't know how it works. The polar caps are melting faster and sooner in the season. And I live in southern Arizona, where we don't get snow. Well, last 5 years we've had record snow, wind, and temps, so cold it is killing off cacti and native trees. And in summer we are getting record high temps.
If I had the money, I would invest. But sadly, I'm one who can't. It's sad that its going to take such a major hit to get the people who have the money to invest. If it doesn't make money, they want nothing to do with it. Watch "Shark Tank" on tv, and you'll get what I mean. I just do what I can to not add to the problem. If we all could do that, it would help, and wouldn't cost us anything. In fact, you might end up getting paids, such as in recycling.
Oh yes, this earth is changing constantly, but when will we ever learn? How many times does this earth have to destroy itself and start over before we learn how to fix it? We are destroying our home. Anyone get that? I hope enough of us will, before its too late! Blessed Be...

Yes, the world is getting warmer. Is it man's fault? Probably not. The world changes in cycles. It get's hotter then colder and back again. We are not that far removed from the last ice age. We are talking about cycles that extend over tens of thousands of years when we have maybe 800 years of accurate data. Mount St. Helens sent more greenhouse gasses into the atomsphere than all of humanity ever, combined. Now we learn that the hole in the ozone layer over Antarctica is shrinking. Global warming is a gimick to make money. Nothing more.

It is the folly of man to believe that everything revolves around himself. Now that does not mean that we should not take care of our home. People pay more attention to their cars and houses than they do to the Earth. That kind of behavior is reckless and irresponsible, and we should all work at changing how we care for the Earth while figuring out how we fit into the constant cycle of change.

LVX,

Shawn.

My own approach toward this issue is I plant as much green plants as my property allows me and I support as much insects ,butterflies and birds I can .I fully reallize that on my own I can not safe the planet ,but what I can do is make my house and property greener .Every inch of my windowsills is taken by living plants .That is how I express connection to my Mother Earth and support her .It is not much ,but it is something .I am not Wiccan ,but caring after our environment is not only a duty to Wiccans ,since each and everyone of us depend on the Earth to survive .
On side note ,planet can very well survive on its own with us or without .The question is will we destroy ourselves as race out of arrogance and oblivion or not .Simple forms of life adapt very fast by modifying their genom ,but we are too complex to adapt so fast in too fast enviromental changes .So it is not the survival of planet or simple forms of life under threat ,but our own survival as specie .We have prooven as specie that too much intellect and lack of connectivity can lead us to self-distruction very easy .
And I agree with tombstone the weather all around the world has been going weird last few years .Everyone near the nature probably have noticed plants ,birds and animals are chenging their growing , living and hibernating patterns .
They are far more sensitive to those changes than any tool ever invented by Human .Once we had same attunement ,but sadly we have lost it .

The politically correct term for global warming is climate change, but to claim such is not occurring simply because it has not gotten hotter is incredibly ignorant. Global warming refers to the increase in the Earth's average temperature, which alters weather patterns making some location warming, others colder, and some to suffer stranger changes. Climate change is not an absolutely bad thing, some countries stand to benefit from it, but if we continue to ignore that it's happening then we will suffer from the events we did not anticipate. Personally, I think climate change is part man-made, part natural processes. Even so, facts are facts and I will not ignore what scientists have to say or engineers have to build.

Wow, you all have very descriptive opinions. I knew this would make for a good discussion. And sorry moderator I posted it in the wrong forum, I wasn't sure if it would be wicca or general.

I didn't even take the ice age into account, that is a good point because that happened before humanity had their way with the environment. I agree with faithseeker that it must be a mix of human and natural causes.

I still think it's a good idea to invest in something that would clean air pollution. Cities like L.A. at least could really benifit from it. If the air gets too polluted we will not be able to breathe or survive.

Does Global Warming exist? Absolutely! Is it caused by humans? Nope, it isn't.

A study of the geologic history of the Earth will clearly show that it periodically goes through episodes where it heats up and it cools down. There have been at least five major ice ages in the Earth's past (the Huronian, Cryogenian, Andean-Saharan, Karoo Ice Age and the Quaternary glaciation). Outside these ages, the Earth seems to have been ice-free even in high latitudes. We are currently nearing the end of the last Ice Age which began nearly 2.6 million years ago during the Pliocene. All of this is a perfectly normal cycle of climate on this planet. And you'll note that all of the previous periods of inter-glaciation (when there was no ice) occurred well before humans had any effect on the environment.

The Earth has been in an interglacial period (A period of warming) known as the Holocene for more than 11,000 years. It was conventional wisdom that the typical interglacial period lasts about 12,000 years, but this has been called into question recently. For example, an article in "Nature" argues that the current interglacial might be most analogous to a previous interglacial that lasted 28,000 years. Predicted changes in orbital forcing suggest that the next glacial period would begin at least 50,000 years from now, even in absence of human-made global warming

It is possible that human activity and particularly the emissions of green house gasses are minutely speeding up the process and to that extent we can have some effect on it. But to say that we can stop or reverse global warming is to not understand the natural processes that cause it in the first place.

Climate change is most definitely caused by humans, for the most part. The United Nations most recent findings are that it is 95% caused by humans, and we are rapidly reaching a crisis point. I live in Canada, in Alberta, and northern Canada is one of the most sensitive areas to climate change.

Denial of the human causes of climate change is one of the biggest problems we face; because until people accept the fact that we humans are causing this collapse, we're not going to really be able to do anything about it except kiss ourselves goodbye.

I came to this forum wondering whether any Wiccans were using spells (quantum physics) or meditation, or any other action to work against climate change and for human awareness of this problem that we're causing. On the flip side, Wiccans could be using the same to influence the thinking of humans, to realize that we'd better change things fast.

A recent article in Atlantic has pointed out that we might as well stop worrying about climate change, and look out for climate collapse, because we're rapidly approaching the point where we will have no control over what is happening. The President of Ireland is the latest politician to say that this is approaching emergency, and we must leave fossil fuels in the ground in order to at least try to reverse what is happening.

It can be difficult to understand Earth and it's cycles considered how long they take... we are the first to witnesses this change, and we have evidence to show it could be devastating. The more we understand the more we can tune in to the energies of Earth

Global Warming was something created by Al Gore - i believe the earth is warming up - but its not as vicious as they make us believe - yeah we can do stuff that is more eco friendly and i have no problem doing so - but the whole global warming thing is just ridiculous
