Rant on love spells

Post # 1
ok i know a lot of you have waited for this post on love spells and i posted here because i don't have a real category for this so here i go love spells are white magic WRONG if you are binding and forcing a person to love you how is this pure. When you do white magic it should only be the best of intent if not abandon the idea go straight to black magic if you are that kind of person please personally post you're opinion on this i think love spells seem sweet but aren't made out to be. you have been questioned have you now

Stay tune for my next post on cauldrons and how to use them in general spell disussion.

Magic isn't about personal gain its about helping the helpless and the needy who need it more then yourself

What is the point of this? First of all someone can only effect you with a spell if you are open to it. The same thing goes for peoples natural charm. Does that mean it is wrong to dress up and wear make up when you go out, in hopes of catching someones attention?

Ekpyrosis, upon what have you founded this conclusion?

Whether or not a person is "open" to something does not affect its ability to occur. True, you cannot affect a person's reaction , such as having their attention or offending them, but you can directly affect a person without their being open to it.

For example, if I were to punch you in the face the only way to avoid it would be to block it or dodge it - actively respond to the event in question. Refusal to believe in or acknowledge that I am punching you just means that punching you is now slightly easier for me.

In my opinion white and black magic are terms used as a substitute to categorize spells as either good or bad. Of course, this categorization is subjective to the morals of the individual, so while one may regard love spells as 'black magic' another would see them as white.

Personally, I don't see any issue with using love spells in any form. Love is an involuntary emotion, it's not like you wake up and decide to love somebody. How then, is it wrong to induce love in someone with magic? The end result is no different than if the individual fell in love through any other means.

But it's not uncontrolled if someone can purposely cause it with magick. It should be, but with magick it doesn't have to be.

I don't know about you, but I think most people would frown upon people changing the thoughts and feelings of others without their knowledge or consent. It would be a very literal violation of the mind and emotions of this person, perhaps a violation of their personality or nature.

And that is a good portion of why love magick is bad.

@Moonfire
First of all, you're posting this in the Wiccan section, so I assume you're either Wiccan or believe in "harm none" and never doing anything that interferes with other's free will. Not all people who practice magick share those beliefs nor care if something is "white" or "black". Furthermore, most experienced magick practioners don't even believe in "white" or "black" magick. Magick has no color, intent is intent, it has no color either. "Black" has become a label for anything that isn't hearts, singing flowers, sunshine and rainbows. In the true history of magick from every corner of the world, magick is used for whatever the user feels it should be used for.

As for love magick, there are ways it can be nice and useful, and ways that it can be more harmful to both. For instance, love magick can be used to draw the right person to you (mystery man/woman). Love magick can be used to initiate relationships when one person is interested and the other is shy or uncertain. When you have to keep casting love spells to keep a relationship going, that's when you're just creating a relationship built off of fake emotions and forcing it to continue going. Is it wrong to cause someone to feel love? Well it isn't the worst thing someone could do. Love is an emotion that can cause great happiness. It becomes a problem when the caster is doing it for selfish reasons as a way to metaphorically inprison someone into a relationship. At this point, I would be more concerned with the caster's mental health, because obviously there are some serious insecurity issues going on. Are they terrible for doing this? No, they are just not "healthy". No karmic return is going to occur to someone who is in denial of their own condition.

@Tanner
Although it is nice to help others, magick is not a tool, it is everywhere. It is the energy ebb and flow of all of life/nature. It is our minds using that energy in order to manifest it into the physical world. There are no set guidelines as to how to use it. If we weren't supposed to use it as we willed, we would not be able to. I find it very heartwarming that you personally will use your abilities to help others, but that is your choice and others may choose differently. Although you'll definitely be up for sainthood!

@Ekpyrosis
If we could only effect those open to magick, what limits we would have! I wouldn't need protection, I could just say "nope, nuh uh! I'm closed for remodeling". Not so. Magick only meets opposition when it directly conflicts with someone's true will. But how much in life do we will to be so with all our mind and heart consciously and subconsciously? The answer is, very little. Only when someone is aware of what your doing and uses there own wills against it does it become a battle of wills (still no definite victory).

I believe White and Black Magick are useless terms to describe Magick. I do think that love spells are wrong, so I suppose it could be categorized as Black Magick. Most of the spells on this site don't work anyway...

Ooooh, WhiteRav3n said something that should be expanded upon;

"It becomes a problem when the caster is doing it for selfish reasons as a way to metaphorically inprison someone into a relationship."

Abusive relationships. They happen all the time and outsiders always have extreme trouble understanding why the abused partner doesn't just, you know, get up and leave . "It's what any rational person would do," they say, "it's what I would do in that situation!"

These people don't have the whole picture. The abused partner is often very deeply in love with the abuser. Abuse doesn't usually happen early in the relationship - it usually shows up after the relationship is is good and established and the feelings are strong. Though the abused partner obviously sees the abuse, they also remember what the abuser was like before and when he or she isn't abusive, and the abused is still very much in love with that part.

Let's assume you're some good and wholesome person who totally won't hit your boyfriend or girlfriend - that still doesn't mean you two will be a good match. A relationship needs more than just love, it needs partners who are otherwise fulfilling to one another.

I need someone I can roughhouse with both physically and verbally. I need someone I can have deep religious conversation with. I need someone with whom I can share hobbies like hunting and gardening. I've been in an extremely loving relationship lacking these elements and it sucked. We loved each other but we still managed to never truly feel close because there wasn't enough overlap in how we wanted to treat and live with our loved ones.

How do you know that you will be able to give this person everything that they need? It may not be so simple as being willing to try anything; they may need someone with a specific taste in humor or an artistic appreciation or some other such personality trait you can't simply will into being. What then? You couldn't argue that you've truly made them happy, just so in love that they are no longer free to pursue this happiness on their own.
