Although you are correct in the etnymology of the term daemon in the sense of the greeks belief. Totally excellent might I add.

However, so that others are not totally confused by this extreme difference in the most common use of the word, relating it to evil, let me explain.

Daemons are considered good nor bad. But there were many in various cultures that were put in a dark light.
There are still many literary connections that demonstrate that angels and demons are of the exact same race, one that is more destructive and one that is constructive, both working toward the balance of the world (many believe under the instruction of the top Creator/Divinity). This is why "fallen" angels become "demons" in many lists of angels/demons, they just switched sides, but this doesn't mean they are evil at all. The word "evil" is a man made term. Everything in nature has both destructive and constructive aspects or in other words "dark" and "light" aspects, even the human mind itself!

When the greek word came to Rome, the meaning was derived from the latin translation of "de mon" which became a connotation of evil/bad. Might I add, this way of translation was influenced by Christiantiy.

This is why I use the word "demon" to describe beings of destruction and daemon to describe the "lesser god" neutral sort of being. But when I discuss malicious entities I just use "evil" or "negative".

Really demon and daemon are the exact same thing but I think that "demon" has developed into a negative thing, and although it is unfortunate, we must work around the way the world perceives their languages. You can't call someone "gay" anymore and expect them to smile unless they're homosexual! But years ago, this was just a way to imply that they were happy. Now demons are seen as evil, so unless you go through the trouble of explaining the origin "daemon", you're going to be perceived as a monster for working with them.

And on a side note, I have worked with spirits of all kinds. To me, all spirits deserve the same amount of respect. Some have greater power and authority and others have lesser. They all come in different shapes and sizes and are given various names. But just like anything, every single one has a unique personality and talent. So in my experience to meet every being with the same mindset that you would a stranger on the street. As you get to know them, you will realize whether they are someone you want to work with or not.

You can have just as many problems with working with "angels" as you would working with "demons". They are higher beings with big egos.

You're welcome. I'm just saying what one of the "beliefs" are. Not mine particularly. For instance Even some mythological deities are on the list of "demons" which I totally disagee with. As I said, I don't judge a book by its cover. Every spirit is a stranger that is unique in their own right. It doesn't matter what anyone calls them, even what they call themselves.

Its been a few years since I study this, so I can't look back at my valuable resources easily. So wikipedia will have to do! =)

"In the Testament of Solomon, Beelzebul appears as prince of the demons and says (6.2) that he was formerly a leading heavenly angel who was (6.7) associated with the star Hesperus (which is the normal Greek name for the planet Venus as evening star)."

There was a lot more that I read, but I can't remember the names. If you really want me to, I can try to find it in my old resources.

the link i gave is a no nonsense site and one of the most accurate still online. it gives a list from A-Z to help those wishing to find a certain demon. (make sure to read the information there about how a demon is classified on that site)

granted, no site is complete as there is always more information to be added. but unfortunately, i will not agree with anyone about the joysofsatan site :) joysofsatan is an old biased website with possibly some misinformation

I agree there, some of the information is a few years old, and a few years is enough for something big to happen :)

You can do it through many different ways. The best way (in my opinion) is through a Ouija Board :)
