Disabled 'n Mentally Ill?

Hello hello! Just wondering what folks do with their practice when disabled and/or mentally ill? Tips and tricks you have for casting a circle in a wheelchair or with a cane? Tips for practicing when dealing with depression or other serious mental illness? I'm curious to hear how other people deal with life when they're not a 'normy'. :)

Just a bit about me- I'm Schizoaffective with depression. Been a practicing witch for 25-26 years and still going strong. I know many of my friends have depression and one is Autistic and I was wondering if some of the techniques I've learned to cope with my MI are similar to others out there.

Thanks In Advance!

Personally, I would recommend that someone wait until their mood improves before attempting any sort of magical operation, unless of course part of preparing for the operation includes raising their mood. From everything I've read about magic and spellwork, a person's mood will most likely have an effect on the spell. I imagine being in a low energy state such as depression would make it difficult to raise energy. Everyone is different though, and hopefully others here will have experience with that sort of thing and can provide more insight. You must have your own way of making it work since you've been practicin for years.

As for casting a circle in a wheelchair or with a cane, you don't necessarily need to move around the area where that circle will be. That's just one way to do it. If you can use visualization you can cast a circle around yourself with your intention. Another thing to try might be a physical circle made of rope or something else that's large enough to accomodate a wheelchair with the intent that a circle is cast whenever that physical circle is laid out. I would suggest cleansing and charging the material first, and only bringing it out when performing a magical operation. That's to reinforce the purpose of it in your mind.

Magic is not exclusive, magic is inclusive. Anyone and everyone has the ability to cast magic, like any skill in life there are those born with a natural ability and those who need to place more energy into developing their abilities overtime. No matter which category one falls in the ability must be used, practiced, developed and maintained or the edge one has does not endure.

Some of my best work has been done while injured, sick, or dealing with an altered mental state. With that said it was only through practice during "better" times as I have grown and learned the craft from a young age that has allowed me to cast during times when others feel one shouldn't be casting.

Protection can be cast at anytime. It's good to practice this skill from the start and one can do this while sitting still in a chair by projecting energy in a circle around them. One can close their eyes and see in their minds eye the circle of energy being cast around them. One can also do this while laying down, as I did this many times as a child to protect myself while in bed. I was haunted by nightmares and other sleep issues as a child and this was one of the ways I taught myself how to cope with the energy and feelings I was experiencing. Circles can also be cast in large spaces in a group setting and someone in a wheel chair can be apart of "walking" or moving around the space in a clockwise direction. If a person can hold an object in their hands or point a finger while moving around the space the are helping to cast the circle. Even being still and observing the circle casting when others move adds to the energy that the circle is being cast with. The person walking is just one aspect of the collective energy used to cast the circle as they gather it, amplify it through a tool, and cast the circle.

Is it a good idea to cast while depressed? I say yes depending on the magical working. I recommend healing spells, protection, and other aspects that are for the person who is trying heal. I would not recommend someone dealing with any illness or injury to tax themselves with workings that are beyond basic personal needs in life.Sometimes the best medicine is attracting or manifesting more love into ones' life. I don't mean making someone fall in love, I mean opening up the heart chakra to allow more love to flow,by casting a self love spell, or by drawing more love into one's life by creating space for it through doing the things one loves to do. These are things that are good for anyone and allow for the magic of life to thrive.

Magic is not just spells cast during the full moon but the words we speak, the actions we do, and thoughts we have on a daily basis. Anyone and everyone is capable of creating changes in energy or energy manipulation. Don't let someone else tell you that you can't do something because of your health or other physical abilities.

Many Blessings,

Katie
