June's Topic of The Month is Titles! Many practitioners take on one or several titles. There is no specific number that is acceptable. Some are based on our practices. Other times they surrond our religion. A lot of the titles we use today might be metaphoric rather than literal in one sense of another. In many cases if there is not a preexisting title that suits you, you can make on you like! That is the beauty of it, this is your path and how you choose to identify is personal to you and your choice alone. So if you feel comfortable sharing with the class, let us know what titles you fancy.
I tend to just call myself and eclectic witch! I gather information from all types of religions, philosophies, and types of magick. :)

I usually tell people that I'm a Heathen, and if they ask what that is, I get a bit more specific and say Norse Pagan. It's still a bit of a general term, but I don't limit myself to the Aesir Gods, so I'm not Asatruar, nor the Vanir Gods so I'm not a Vanatruar either, and so on and so forth.
However, I am a bit of an Eclectic Witch. I do a bit of everything when it comes to my magical workings and practices ;)

For me there are a variety of titles that reign true for me. I usually keep it simple with something like, "Hellene" or "Hellenist". I do really like the title of Amazon and am quite proud of it. See now too many people take that to be literal or take issue with that one. I feel that if someone is ignorant enough to take that to be literal, that is on them. And if you take issue with how someone chooses to identify, that too is on them. I find it to be a more specific term like the more specific sects of Heathenry. This showcases which Gods you work with. But in that same way if one actually knew the history of the Amazones they would see they too worked with specific Deities. So I use it for much the same purpose. Spartan is another one I am proud of as their society was good to women unlike most of the Greek world and worked with simular Gods.
Now for practice titles it gets to be a lot more that are applicable. All of them I like but don't often use because if I stated them all the time it would be quite a mouthful lol.

I consider myself an eclectic witch as far as magick goes, and I identify as a Shakta as far as religion goes. Shaktas follow the tradition in Hinduism known as Shaktism, which means in a general sense that I believe that Shakti (feminine energy or power) or Devi (Goddess) is the supreme power. To go further into the world of Shaktism, I also identify with the Kalikula, or family of Kali.
Below is a quote regarding the Kalikula form of Shaktism:
"TheKalikula (family ofKali ) form of Shaktism is most dominant inNepal, northern and eastern India, and is most widely prevalent inWest Bengal,Assam,BiharandOdisha, as well as parts ofMaharashtra,Bangladeshand some parts ofKerala.Kalikula lineages focus upon the Devi as the source of wisdom (vidya ) and liberation (moksha ). They generally stand "in opposition to the brahmanic tradition," which they view as "overly conservative and denying the experiential part of religion." "
I have an issue with titles, at least within my own practice. I consider myself in general to be a Heathen. I often don't like narrowing it down past that, as Heathenry can get really divided depending on which "branch" you subscribe to. However, in being open and honest, I also call myself:
Heathen - yerp.
Rokkatruar - meaning I honor and work with the rokkr deities and associated wights such as the jotunfolk
Lokean - as in Loki is the main deity I keep first and foremost in my practices
Lokiskin/Lokisdottir - related to the title above, I adopted the name "lokisdottir" as Loki plays a very fatherly role in my life. I call myself Lokiskin to let other heathens know I associate with Loki and his kin.
Seidkona - this means I consider myself akin to a volva, in that I practice seidr and work my spirituality around this practice
