Don't try to force it. Your mind wandering is natural. Try to become aware of your mind wandering without focusing on it too much. That means, just let your mind wander for a bit, but don't focus on the individual thoughts so much - just be aware of them passing by. It may take a few good minutes, but your mind will begin quiet down.
It takes practice. You may not be able to get into a meditative state at first, but don't let that discourage you.
Also, you may want to look into active or dynamic meditation. It involves movement and it a lot easier for some people to do.
