Dear SoM community,

A close friend of mine very recently got into this religion, as well as this site, and before she logged on, I briefed her on what magick can and can't do. Soon, however, she had told me this:

"Werewolves, vamps? Joss, you flat out told me that magic can't make you any of these things. What gives? Why am I seein' so many transformation spells? Are you sure?"

Now, had I not been around, she would have fallen prey to the ideal, dubbed fluffy, and possibly got gaged when all she set out to do was learn.

I understand there are people out there who actually think they are these things, and I know that has do to some non-magick issue in their mind, whatever that may be. This is not addressed to you, I understand that that is not your fault.

This is addressed to the members who know they are role-playing, pretending, and posting fake spells.

I respectfully ask you to stop. This is a site for learning, and if you are knowingly putting up false information, then you know that you are leading people astray.

There are t housands of websites made specifically so people can pretend that they are fantasy creatures, and interact with other like-minded individuals.

Please, this is not the place. Reconsider what you are doing, and think about how it will affect others.

Finally, regardless as to whether you truly think you are one, pretend you are one, or are a regular user reading this, have a blessed day/night.

With love and hope for change,

JossAS

Actually, they're not the first who have said this before.

I respect what you said, yes, but don't think my following statement is judgemental or contradictory.

The people who have a case of SSS (Special Snowflake Syndrome), believe what they believe, and they believe in it so strongly, that they might not grow out of it. Now, if you'll be patient for the kiddos in the 13-15 age range, give them time, and they'll grow out of it. At least most of them do. I haven't met a 13 year old who didn't think they were a vampire or some other ridiculous mythical creature (will you believe me if I was told by a kid that they were half centaur? LOL). They need to learn on their own that what they believe does not exist, and then dig into how magick works properly .

Now, those reading, will probably ask, "Well, why don't they delete the fluffy spells and articles on the site?". We, as members, cannot. Not even the moderators can delete spells. Only the website admin can, and he won't. Once it's up there, it's up there. It draws attention to the site.

So if it's bothering you that people think they're some sort of creature, or the fact that you don't like the spells and articles on here that lead people astray, simply give them a warning about it, and ignore it. If you ignore it, it won't bother you, and others can go on their merry way.

If others don't learn from their role-playing, against the rules, play, then that's their problem.

I am very suprised that exist 13 years old kids who believes they are some sort of mythical creature.I know a few but they have common sense for their age.

To be fair, there are adults who believe these things as well. For the people who are new to magic and spirituality, their understanding of the foundations of reality have been recently shaken, so it makes sense that some people would have a more fantastical view on things. What these people need to learn is that magic does not overrule science and most practitioners move on from that if they have had that stage.

if only it was that simple. those spells are placed in the fantasy section for a reason. [it's pure fantasy] the only person who can delete spells is the site admin who is usually busy fixing site problems, and unfortunately those fluffy spells get the site traffic. one disclaimer stating the site is entertainment and poof, totally safe [of course if you find a spell encouraging self harm, contact Petrarca and he will remove it immediately.]

you sadly can't stop people from doing stuff, especially online. some honestly believe the spell they posted would work because they saw it on True Blood or wherever. others just like making people mad and post whatever they feel like. i've said it before, if you have the time, rank the spells 1 out of 5 and flag them. even if the spell remains it will be low ranked. you could also try teaching in the forums or through email [though check the law in your area since many places don't like teaching minors without parental consent... even if you're a minor yourself i think]

Thank you all for your intelligent additions to my post.

I am well aware that we can't do much about the pre-existing fantasy spells. I was just hoping people would read this and the influx would slow some.

It's just dangerous for the new learners, and my intent was to convince that to some of people in question.

I am extremely glad somebody has finally put this out there. I am very sick of getting mail from these sorts of people claiming to be "werewolves" etc. One even went as far as to mail me pretending to be Nyx's brother. I truly hope that those people see this post and realise what they are doing isn't right. As you said, there are many sites dedicated to role-play of such things. I am saying this not just for those who use this site for education, but also for the sake of those who do role-play: Please take what this post says into account, go somewhere else. Nyx's blessings upon you. -Lucy

Eventually, people will "sometimes" learn the truth! But meanwhile they will believe what they want to believe. Many young, and not so young, may believe in mermaids. I can say, that is not true. But it is their belief. And often, even confronted by the truth, they will continue to "believe what I believe".
Millions of people believe that Jesus was the son of God; a great many more millions do not!
When a youngster sincerely believes that werewolves exist; all others can do is try to guide them away from that belief. But we have to be careful not to crush what they believe. Just try convincing a Catholic that Jesus was not a God!
