Well with my broom I only use it to get the negative energy out and rituals purposes. I have read that if you hang or put it by your altar it helps you out with your spells. I also read that if you jump over the broom when your getting married, it supposed to bring a happy long marriage. I don't know a lot on brooms.

In old folklore they said that jumping over a broom can stop a spirit from following you around. Also that putting two broomsticks on a wall intersecting will protect your home. This is all just lore though, some believe it, some dont.

Originally, the broom was only a means to clean the house. In the old days, only the "landed gentry", royalty and nobles, really "married" in the sense of marriage today. Most people, Peasants if you like, made "vows", to live together as husband and wife. They would "hand fast", to jump over the fire, representing "warmth", and jump a broom, laid on the ground, to represent "the household". That is the meaning of to "jump over the broomstick". They would then "break bread" together; and drink a "loving cup" of Mead or Wine. Handfasting is still performed today!
