Creating a Familiar?
By:
First I would like to say hello, and thank you for reading.I am new to the website, and I would like to know how to create a familiar.I have been reading alot of forums on the subject, but sadly I am still confused.People say that when you create a familiar you need to feed it energy, but how do you do that? How do you create a familiar, and how do you feed it energy so it won't disappear? If you can give me a specific answer that would be much appreciated. -Thank you

Hello, I am also a newer member. If you are having trouble with familiars at first i suggest using a loving creature. I have always believed that animals themselves can just be drawn to certain people and that they hold an amazing ammount of loving and strong energies. There is where I began learnig how to read energies. They can also be protective which gives you a sense of comfort. But I am also interested in hearing what makes a familiar. I just thought I would post small notes to hopefully help. (:

Hello i am also new but someone quite knowledgeable told me that a familiar is an animal that willing chooses to follow you i think but don't quote me on it. You should do more research though cause the explanation differs. Blessed be; (

Well, try finding a familiar first, this is usually a pet that is quite, what's the word, where the pet is your best friend, and has helped you often, you can feed them energy through putting energy into a charm, like a small necklace, and hang it around their neck or the like. Or just let the energy flow through you and into the familiar. Just so you know, the familiar is more for reassurance, they can't communicate directly with you, but can give you small signs that they understand you.

You can't create a Familiar. A familiar is a spiritual animal that helps you on your path.

This ^^^ They either come to you or they don't. There is no 'creating' a familiar.

The idea that a pet is the same as a familiar came from the centuries when poor women who had only a pet for company were often accused of being Witches.. It has continued in modern times because of the crop of poorly researched books on the market these days. But the fact of the matter is that our beloved pets and a Witch's familiar are very, very different things.

A Witch's familiar is an animal spirit or a magical construct created by the Witch or the Magician as an adjunct to their magical workings, as a repository for power, and if needed as a defense against magical attack from another magic user. A Witch or a magician can draw upon the energies of the familiar when they need an extra boost of energy in a magical working. Conceivably if the spell is important enough, the Witch could completely drain the familiar of energy causing it to "die" or cease to exist. And in the case of a magical attack, the attack could be diverted to the familiar so that it would be the familiar which is destroyed rather than the magic user. None of these are things that I think any of us would want to do with our pets.

There is an excellent article on familars here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Familiar_spirit

Animals are very sensitive to the energies around them and they may be drawn to us when we are working magic because they can sense the energy. They also want to be around their people, which again will make them want to be where we are..and that may be where we are doing magic. Neither of these things makes the animal a familiar or inherently magical in and of itself.

I am aware that I am very late to the party. But you are incorrect. I believe that you are talking about animal spirits, not familiars. Familiars are spirits you create. Youcan use a pet as a medium but yes, you do create them.

Creating a familiar...I have never heard of this before. I believe that you might have better luck with thoughtforms and servitors. Perhaps tulpas.

Familiars, I believe, are more...summoned. Though whether or not they stick with you is a different topic.

Let's try it this way. Forget the suggestions about finding a pet for a familiar, Lark is right about that one, a pet isn't a familiar it's a pet.

Do you work with any spirits now? If not, how much do you know about raising energy, visualization, and thought forms?

Many witches build a servitor, an energy construct with a personality that can to some degree sustain itself, to serve as a familiar. The advantage here is that if you pull too much energy from it and destroy it you can rebuild it. It also means you can design your familiar from the ground up to fit you to a "T". Other witches work with a particular spirit that they've met that agree to work with them. A familiar like this is going to be able to support itself, though you would want to offer it energy or offerings from time to time as a thanks for it's help.

With you just starting out, I'd suggest going with the servitor or holding off until you've had more practice with magic.
