With spring fast aproaching I have been searching for monkshood for my garden. I know it's poisonous and I have precautions to deal with it. But I am not sure where to buy them in Illinois. Where can I buy some? Is it better to buy in person or online?
Despite their reputation quite a few garden centres in the UK stock them as they're very attractive, so you may find places in Illinois willing to sell you the adult plants. Otherwise take a look at Alchemy Works as they regularly stock aconite seeds for reasonable prices; they're tricky to grow from seed though. You also might want to check whether there's a local law about growing poisonous plants or bringing seeds into a particular area.

Seeing that it is one of the most toxic plants, I can understand why it difficult to find and possibly even illegal to grow. I knew a man from China that had one in his front yard. It really was gorgeous. I would assume that if you really want one, you will need to have it shipped to you overseas.
But, in the meantime Lupines are very attractive relatives to monkshood that are less toxic (although still toxic) and have a similar look to them. I ran a quick search and found them sold at a number of places. I hope this helps!
