Visualization does help immensly. When you visualize the resuls of your spell, you are pouring energy into it. Visualizing getting your desired results pours positive energy into it's creation. If you focus on it not working (or have strong doubt) you pour negative energy into your working. This could lead to failure or undesired results.
This is why it is considered part of "the basics" to some practitioners.
I am one those people that thinks visualization or fantasizing if you want to call it that is the most important thing of all.
And I mean specifically visualizing and seeing in your minds eye what you want, need and desire for a result as well as how you get it. Practicing control over your ability to visualize is part of learning spell casting.
The most common and best way to do that is to imagine a tennis ball sized object made of energy. That energy may be visualized like a transparent color. Visualize your self tossing it back and forth in your hands. Try even tossing it to a friend who tosses it back.
Like seeing the ball of energy in your minds eye see visually what you want to happen when casting a spell. That is visualization with a spell. It is very powerful.

Yes. Most call it 'visualizing' though. Just saying 'I want a promotion' doesn't help as much as closing your eyes and picturing yourself working hard, the boss calling you to his/her office and offering you a promotion. It not only helps the spell, but you can motivate yourself in the process. Keep in mind you will need to work hard, too often people cast a spell then sit back and wait for it to happen. Magick opens the door, if you don't walk through the doorway, don't get upset.
