Herbs for stomach aches?
By:
Greetings people of SoM! So, my sister has been having issues with her stomach, as she's sick with this awful stomach bug, and I feel horribly bad for her. So, I've been making her teas, but I'd like to try and make something that could soothe her stomach some. Does anyone know of any simple herbs that are useful for that? Thanks,
-October

Do you know the name of the condition ie: dyspepsia, gastritis, hyperacidity; or can you describe the sensation ie: nausea, dull persistent pain, bloatedness?

Hi, first of all your sister should see a doctor.
Healing with herbs is not so simple, different herbs and teas are used for different stomach pains and diseases.

If its only pain, without other symptoms like nausea, vomiting, and she haven't eaten smth poisonous, or very "hard" to digest food, I would try this:

Simple, but strong chamomile tea cup plus 1 teaspoon of natural butter (put it in hot tea and drink it). Taste is quite weird, but it does miracles :)

Chamomile and peppermint tastes great together, and both are calming for the belly. Peppermint soothes the lining of the stomach, and helps rid any gas and nausea. Chamomile, in general, is a calming herb, and should help her rest. I hope she gets better soon.

When my daughter had the stomach flu, I steeped basil in boiling hot chicken broth and served it to her in a cup when it cooled down to "just warm". Basil prevents vomiting, so she was able to keep down the chicken broth. She vomited again later, but after the broth was already past her stomach. When someone is having stomach problems, the most important thing is hydration and nourishment and the "bug" will go away with time.

Do NOT take basil if pregnant. Are you sure she isn't pregnant? If so be VERY careful what herbs you give her.

If there is bleeding present or dehydration that can't be corrected, a doctor should be seen immediately.

Peppermint is good for gas but bad for reflux. Chamomile is all around good but I suggest sweetening it with raw honey for bonus medicinal properties. But be careful with Chamomile if there are ragweed allergies present. You want to avoid it.

I think some honey and chamomile tea would help nicely as the honey is sweet and can help make you feel better and chamomile should help your sister relax a little bit. :)

Thank you for all the input! She is doing better now, as we took her to the doctor and got her medicine. I did try a few of these, with honey in all of them, and she loved them, and she even said a few were calming. So, thank you everyone!

mint and ginger and honey. but i will always suggest honey it solves all problems. yes go seek a doctor, but my roommate has nausea as part of her chronic illness and she drinks lots and lots of ginger and honey tea to help it. also always get as local of honey as you can, as the daughter of a bee keeper i can tell you for sure that most cheep store bought honey is not really honey anymore because of how pasteurized and diluted it is. local honey has all the good things in it and adding bee pollen into anything helps too
