My motto "Bring magick back to the world where it once was"
I joined today, and i've already applied for a new coven, i love magick, ive been practicing magick for 5yrs already and before i cast a spell i think of the outcome and why i was performing it. out of the 5yrs ive only casted 5 spells all were protection spells not for me but for the people i love.
my question is "Do you use magick for every day purposes and personal interest or do you use magick for helpful reasons?"
I use it every day for myself. I think that magic is something we are, not something we set aside or only use occasionally. Who told you that personal development wasn't helpful?
i never said it wasn't helpful. let me see if i can change the way i said it. should magick be helpful towards you? or should it be helpful towards others?
"bring magick back to the world where it once was"
I think it depends on your intentions if it is helpful towards you but you hurt someone else by doing so then I say no but if you hurt someone in self defence or it brings no harm yes I personally think spells that help others are always good unless your helping a theif bully ect
There's so much criticism out there about using magic for personal gain, but I'm uncomfortable around the martyr attitude too... it's taken for granted that "selfless" is automatically good, but I've seen people who never do anything for themselves actually do a lot of damage. Damage to themselves, from neglect; and to others, because when the way of thinking is always "not me" they tend to see their own problems in other people and try to solve them instead of looking into themselves. So they think they're helping, they're so sure of it, but it's actually manipulation (that isn't supposed to be good, either.)
I'm not saying that you did this, it's just that I knew too many "white" witches who are eviller than the ones who claim to be evil-- who preach compassion (but are really looking down on others,) or free will and individualism (but really think that the world would be better if everyone was exactly like them.)
If someone uses magic for shallow greedy reasons, or to develop themselves, or to help others, then that's the path they tread. I don't like to presume absolute "shoulds".
