Surriel is right. The Necronomicon is a fictional work. Go ahead and read it if you like, however you should know that it is not real.

Turtle, she's talking about a book by HP Lovecraft called the Necronomicon. Again, it is a fictional book, but it is supposed to be about necromancy.

Actually come to think of it there are many "Necronomicons" out there. Althogh they aren't necisarily called "the necronomicon" they still are "the book of the dead" there is the Egyptian Book of the Dead, The Tibian Book of the Dead, and one by Christian Day: The Witches Book of The Dead(to name a few). Although the book called the necronomicon is a love craft story there are still religious manuscripts of death and the afterlife from many ancient cultures.

There is a fictional work by H.P. Lovecraft, however there are some copies of the necronomicon that talk about the sigils of the spirit and the gates to the Babylonian Deities. The Cthulhu Mythos is fictional however the calls to Ishtar, Marduk and such are all examples of very old ceremonial magick. However in this day and age the rituals are almost impossible to practice.
