Is it alright to study?
By:
I'm Christian. I'm also Wiccan. But lately people have been telling me that I can't do both and that magick shouldn't be studied or practiced when I'm Christian. There can't be a grey when it comes to religion so my question is this: Is studying magick a bad thing when you're a Christian Wiccan or is that just a misjudgment made by others? I want to stick to my practices but I need my question answered and I know there's articles about this. I personally want an answer to my question and hear what you people have to say about this. Thank you!

Christianity and Wicca are two separate religions. There is Trinitarian Wicca, which is sort of a mixture of the two, but I don't think you are talking about that.

You say you are a Christian, so then you aren't a Wiccan. Whether you practice magick or not is really up to you. Study the bible and see what it says about magick, but it is your decision in the end.

It is correct that Christanity and Wicca are two seperate religions. It does not mean, however, that you can not study both. Every religion has elements of the truth, and none has them all. So, you would only be bettering yourself by studying both. However, you will more than likely have only one that is your spiritual path. It is possible to have more than one, but most people aren't that open minded.

That being said, why are you not looking into a Christian based system of magic? Yes, they are out there and it would better suit your belief structure. With studying the more esoteric aspects of Christanity, you will develop a deeper understanding of other religions too. Now, that is esoteric Christanity and not "Bubba's Baptist Church" down on the corner.

LVX,

Shawn.

Just tell them you respect both religions! Simple...

I'm Hindu and I am learning Wicca, here in India people are more narrow minded, if they see any person buying a candle they assume I am gonna cast evil stuff to them lol

I just tell them I am learning things I am attracted to...

People say that the two are soooooo different only because they're too shortsighted to actually try to figure it out. Try substituting things in spells like the water deities or something with something bible-ish like John the Baptist. Or an angel or saint. That's what I do since then yore not violating the commandment of having no other gods over the Christian god.

Again, thanks you guys. This is really helping me out here. I like to keep an open mind about things like Religion so I have a better understanding. Also, I worded my question a bit different than I would've liked it to be because I have gotten little sleep this past few days. But back to the main point, I love to have an open mind because I'm simply curious and I know the saying, "Curiosity killed the cat". But it's that wonder on what I can do with these two religions that I love and lived with for most of my life that gets me to explore and understand more. I didn't want to abandon one to follow the other so hence my topic question. But thanks a lot for this.

Blessed be!

Well from what I am seeing you want to mix religions, Christianity and Wicca are like vinegar and oil. They cannot mix. Why? Because Christianity basically damns those who practice the occult:

Galatians 5:20 - 5:21

  • 20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
  • 21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told [you] in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

So basically if you say you are Christian, you are going against the principles of Christianity if you also practice Wicca. Meaning, at least in my opinion, you cannot be both Christian AND Wiccan since you would be breaking the rules of one. There would be no balance.

I'm a christian too..not by choice if you know what I mean!Anyway, religions are made for guys like you and me so that others may control us.Any religion is based in a different story(that's the only difference) but oh well if it work for you then fine,I respect that.If on the other hand you're like me and you like to only keep the true essence and meaning from your religion and leaving the blsht out then there is no problem to do both..you can even do three-way if you like..lol
What I really meant to say is that,it's up to you, what is real and what is fake..(my opinion is that you are over-thinking it) cya
