It is the last day of the first month this year(2013). The end of Janis in some cases as I have refered in younger years.
I wish to share some knowledge on a wonderful being known as Hekate/Hecate. When i first started back in the occult six years ago I was working along side Hekate for quite a while. I did many readings on her from both book and web.
As such I came across a few people who made websites dedicated to Hekate. Mostly stated that she is often seen as a forgotten goddess. It is till I reached this site I found out many worship her or have at least heard of her.
So why do I make this post?
I made this post to share a common thing that was done centuries ago. And in some place still happen or is happening again.
What is this I am speaking of?
I am speaking of Depina. Depina is Hekate Supper. Depina has many ideas of thing of why it was offered some say it was to ward off evil or ghost. Others say it was to ward off trouble through their travels. And most commonly done to day it is an Offering of respect to the Titan/Goddess Hekate. But in late account in the 5th century have said these offerings were a form of charity to feed the poor.
"Ask Hekate whether it is better to be rich or starving; she will tell you that the rich send her a meal every month and that the poor make it disappear before it is even served."
How did these offerings take place?
The Offerings often came upon three way cross roads. To Hekate the three way crossroads are often seen sacred.
When do you offer Depina?
Different reference's will suggest different days. I have seen reference to offer Depina on the 28th/30th of every month. Another day that is suggested to offer her Depina was the 13th of every month. As well as offer Depina on The new moon rising right when you first see the Moon shine the first day after the New Moon.
What were Depina made up of?
I hope my information was of some use. Thank you for reading this.
