Chapped Lips?
By: / Beginner
It's winter. And let's face it.. it's cold, windy, and where I am at-dry. My lips are starting to get chap and my chapstick that I bought from the drug store doesn't seem to be helping. I was wondering if anyone knew of a home-rememdy sort of thing that could soothe my lips? They're all cut up and whining at me for not taking care of them. :( Lol. In all honesty, it's not even that bad.. but.. I still don't like it. /: So any help?

Here's something I posted on another's forum asking the same thing.

Generally, lip gloss wouldn't be too nourishing or mosturizing for your lips.

(Don't do this if your lips are raw). You can make a great lip exfoliant by mixing a small amount of sugar and honey to create a gritty substance. You want to apply this to the lips, and gently scrub in a circular motion. A less messy way to rid the lips of dead skin is to also scrub with a damp cloth or rag.

After exfoliating your lips, you'll want to apply a bit of lip balm/chapstick to the area to protect your lips from the cold, the wind, etc. Re-apply as needed.

*One thing to make sure of is that you get enough water to make sure your lips, and body, are hydrated.

The problem with most over-the-counter preparations for chapped lips is that they are based on petroleum products such as petroleum jelly. Petroleum products actually dry the lips, so things like Chapstick only work temporarily and then actually make the problem worse.

What I would suggest is looking for products that do not contain any petroleum products. Burt's Bees makes on based on beeswax that works well. Or try Shea butter or coconut butter. Those are more apt to be kind to your lips and to not dry them out.
