I saw a blood moon at the beach, it was pretty but also a little frightening. And bad things did seem to follow it, but nothing major.

I'm pretty sure a blood moon is just when the moon takes on a reddish appearance as it rises due to gasses in the atmosphere. It doesn't stay red the entire night, that I know of...but, when it first comes up, you're seeing it through all the gasses in the air, so it'll take on a tint.

Look into the Harvest Moon. That'll answer your questions.

Blood moons are when the full moon looks red. The redish orange ones are more common. But the deepest red ones happen after eclipses.
Here is a link that explains what causes red moons

I was always told it meant death and that someone would die that night. But my response was, people die every night. The retort. -- the full moon on its own can make people crazy and a blood moon causes these moon sensitive people to think more murderously. I was told when one sees the blood moon they should be on guard and even stay indoors. Its true that more violent crimes occur around a full moon than any other time. I'm not sure if any studies have been done concerning blood moons. If anyone here is taking a statistics class, they should cover that! I personally love blood moons, especially when they're full. I find them very beautiful and never mind the superstition. I have been seeing them very frequently this month when I catch a glimpse of the moon in all its glory on the horizon rising. So far...I'm still alive! =D

Yes, the October moon is called a blood moon. It is also called the hunter's or harvest moon. In October they would use the moonlight to hunt and harvest before winter set in. It is called the blood moon because it was the time when people would kill animals to use as provisions during the cold winter months.

Personally, I love blood moons. A blood moon is a seemingly red moon, it's appearance is rare. blood moons are the best time for curses, other than new moons, in my opinion. Cherokee seers like myself, or some of us, take the opportunity to do Spirit fires on nights of the blood moon, because it seems to increase the power.
