Dark and Light, Thoughts

Darkness and Light, for the most part are broad concepts, but really they are perspectives that each individual has on the matter. Some say Darkness is evil, Light is good, but what is truly right and wrong? What is truly good and evil? Just questions I believe there is no true answer. It's based on morals, a majority of beings having a very similar belief on what is what. That's the way we have determind things, by a majority of people sharing a similar belief. Now, not everyone agrees, thus concepts are born, but it all starts with and idea or a thought, then a perception, then based on the perception comes opinion, and then if the opinion is strong enough and others accept the opinion is legitimate and has facts to back it up, it becomes a theory, then if that theory is not proved wrong and it stands the test of time it becomes a law.
Everything begins with a thought, impulses, they are subconscious thoughts that are not on the conscious, but they trigger a reaction, but it still starts from a thought or an idea, like everything else.

In the end it's all a matter of prospective. Which one do you like more?

I believe light is light and dark is dark. Nothing more. People judge too much. The world is full of destruction, preservation, and creation. Everyday animals (including people) harm and kill each other for food, territory, or out of anger. They are equally capable of being nurturing, life giving, and being beneficially productive. Everything relies on something else.

We rely on trees and plants for our oxygen, the bees to pollinate so plants bring forth fruit for us to eat. The same water that can kill us, gives us the fluid we need to survive and cleanse ourselves.

I could go on and on. But when it comes down to it, whatever created this world didn't intend for it to be peaceful and safe. Humans overthink and over emphasize their own importance in the world and feel they can make it perfect, but they're only fooling themselves with inflated egos and denial. The bees and trees have a more influencial role on earth than humans. If humans disappearred, the earth would continue on.

Everything has purpose. Even though something may be perceived as unpleasant, that doesn't make it "bad" "wrong" or "evil".
I've even seen people go as far as to say mosquitoes were created by evil! Is it because mosquitoes are unpleasant that people must rationalize them as being worthless and therefore "ok" to kill? People will think however they wish to think that makes them feel secure in their existence. People want to believe that what drives them to desire to harm is some evil force and not their own carnal instincts as animals.

Darkness and light is nothing more than human labels. The only truth you'll find is not in humans but in opening your eyes and truly observing nature and the world around you. View things through the eyes of a child. Do you know why children are so innocent? Because their minds have yet to be polluted by people's opinions.

There is no good and evil, only pleasant and unpleasant in the eyes of the beholder. But you have tough out the unpleasant things to enjoy the pleasant ones. It wasn't meant to be easy, it's meant to be balanced.

I agree whole heartily with the original post. There is no such thing as good or evil, light or dark. It is just a matter of how we choose to use that which we were given. Time is of the same nature. All it is is a way for us to measure our progress as a civilization. A way to put order to a chaotic world. It's all in the perspective.

If it was the case half our lives would be evil to live with you.

Human nature is called dark and evil just because we are vengeful but we are also the only being on the planet to take care of other animals. My view is true happyiness comes from perfect balance between our darker more sinister selves and our lighter more caring selves.

Personally I believe light being electromagnetic energy, and dark being lack thereof.

To get into my philosophical beliefs as a graeco-roman pagan the use of light and dark expresses the difference in character. Many things in the religion are expressed through personification and turned into stories or myths.
So light often describes what's obvious or what is openly there or sometimes even boastful.
Dark often refers to what may be hidden, unexpected, misunderstood, or quiet.

Light describes extroverted character, and dark describes introverted character.

An example may be the light and dark aspects of our gods. For instance Hera, a light aspect of her is motherhood and a dark aspect of her is jealousy or pride. Don't take dark and light as the difference between good and bad because you also have examples between different gods. For instance Hera is often depicted with light but actually has a worse reputation than Nyx who is often depicted in darkness as being the goddess of night.

Sorry for the double post but I sort of believe in the Yin Yang philosophy as well, however I tend to call it inevitable opposites.
Where there is one, there is the other. Where one doesn't exist, nor does the other.

Therefore for light to be perceived darkness must also, for darkness to be perceived light must also.
Same goes for order and chaos, you can't have order without chaos and so on.

Except for wizhard's random trolling, this has been a great topic! I think we are all pretty much in agreement. And Dem, I just finished telling my daughter the Alegory of the Cave by Plato (my own retelling for a six year old's understanding). I didn't think of explaining the metaphorical meanings behind dark and light. Nice addition.

I'm very much a night person, I love the dark. Psychologically speaking, I believe it really does compare to what Dem is speaking about. To me the dark is quiet, hidden, and, containing a lack of perfect sight, forces us to utilize our other more subtle senses, allowing for creativity, intuition, and critical thinking to take over. But the dark isn't for those who have many fears or much guilt, because when you are alone with nothing more than your thoughts, they can become your worst enemy. Nothing is there to distract you or shield you from your shadow Self. Only those who have accepted their shadow Self and try to retain balance with it, can step into the dark and feel at home.
