January: Wolf Moon
The Wolf Moon, also known as the Cold, Snow, or Winter Moon, is a time of protection and strength. While it is the first full Moon of the calendar year, in terms of nature it occurs in the middle of the cold winter season, a season of death and desolation. In these respects, the Wolf Moon can be seen as a time of both beginnings and endings. This is the time to start to consider what you want to plant and plan for the spring. You can do magick so that as the spring approaches your magickal goal will grow close and closer to fruition.

February: Storm Moon
The Storm Moon, also known as the Death or Quickening Moon, is a time to do magick for fertility and strength. For most people in the Northern Hemisphere, February is a time of storms and bleak, short days. In the olden days, it was a time of true hardship.
This is a good time to do magick to help you face life's challenges. You could do a spell to help you with a particularly challenging project at work. Your spell could focus on helping you to accept the challenge, perservere, and make it through. You could concentrate on the idea of weathering the storm and giving yourself the extra stamina to succeed. This is also a time of cleansing both internally and externally. As such, it's a great time to get rid of physical things you don't need and any mental or emotional baggage you might be hauling around with you, too.

March: Chaste Moon
Also known as the Seed or Worm Moon, the Chaste Moon is a time to plant mental seeds - thoughts of success and hope. This is also a time of purity and newness. It's the time to bless the magickal herbs and plants in your garden and to start preparing the soil for the seeds that you will plant. It's also the time to mentally prepare yourself for new experieces, a new job, pregnancy, taking a trip, or bringing a new animal into your home.

April: Seed Moon
The Seed Moon signals a time of fertility, growth, and wisdom. This Moon is also known as the Egg, Grass, or Wind Moon. This is the time to sow the seeds of Magick. If you are planting a magickal garden, you want to get out there now and put things into the Earth. This is the time to move from the planning phase into action. If you want to get pregnant, this is a great time to go for it. Fertility is in the air. This is also the time to bring that new puppy home, it that is what you have been planning. It's also a great time to empower some seeds to both help them grow and to do Earth magick.

May: Hare Moon
The Hare Moon, also known as the Flower or Planting Moon, is a time of health, love, romance, and wisdom. This is a great time to plant the seeds that you have empowered. As the seeds begin to grow, the energy you have filled them with will start to manifest in your life. It's also a great time to rekindle the romantic spark and passion in a relationship. If you've been working magick to help your career, now will probably be the time to decide which of your job offers to accept. And you might want to do some divination magick to help you make that decision.

June: Lover's Moon
Also known as the Strawberry or Rose Moon, the Lover's Moon brings with it energy for love, marriage, and success. Is it any wonder that in some traditions this Moon is called the Honey Moon? This is a time to nurture your garden and marvel at its beauty and abundance. If you have taken that new job, now is the time to make sure you have everything running smoothly. And you might want to keep your eyes open to see how you can move into a more desirable position.

July: Mead Moon
The Mead Moon, also known as the Blessings, Lightning, or Thunder Moon, is a time of enchantment, health, rebirth, success, and strength. This is the time of the first harvests, when you begin to enjoy the fruits of your labors. This is also a time of celebration and magick. Remember that mead is the nectar of the Gods. Now is the time to gather your magickal herbs and do some prosperity magick so you get that raise you've worked so hard for.

August: Wyrt Moon
The Wyrt Moon, also known as the Wort, Barley, Corn, or Red Moon, is a time of abundance, agriculture, and marriage. This is the time to collect your magickal herbs and store them for the winter or share them with others. Remember to give an offering back to the Goddess for her generosity. At this time of the year, you might want to do magick to help someone else reap the benefits of the Earth's abundance. (With that person's permission, of course!) This is also a good time to make a move at work for that higher level position. If you have become pregnant, this is the time to concentrate your energies on having a healthy pregnancy.

September: Harvest Moon
Also known as the Barley or Hunter's Moon, the Harvest Moon is a time of protection, prosperity, and abundance. This is the time of year when the grains are being harvested, and it is a good time for magick involving your prosperity, abundance, and the nurturing of others. If you have had a long illness, this is the time to finally come back to full health again. This is also the time to obtain that higher paying position at work. The energy of the Harvest Moon will help along any magick that is geared to bring you or someone else abundance.

October: Blood Moon
The Blood Moon is sometimes called the Falling Leaf or Hunter's Moon. It is a Moon of new goals, potection, resolution, and spirituality. The night of the Blood Moon is a great time for divination of any kind. At this time of the year, all of nature is making ready for the winter. Animals that hibernate are gathering the last scraps of food. Birds are heading south. In human societies, this used to be the time when we turned from agriculture to the hunt as our means of sustenance. This is the time to refect on what you did during the year and to evaluate your accomplishments.
You also want to check to see how you will survive the coming months. Make sure that you have enough money in the bank. If your work is seasonal, you might want to do some magick to find other ways to support yourself. If you work outdoors, do magick to help you survive the cold months ahead. You also want to check on things that are important to your safety and survival. How are the tires on your car? And what about that smoke alarm in the kitchen? Because the holidays are fast approaching, you also might want to do some work to remove stress and negative energy from your surroundings.

Novemeber: Snow Moon
The Snow Moon is also known as the Beaver, Mourning, or Tree Moon. This is a good time to work with abundance, properity, and the bonds of family and friendship. This is also an excellent time to use divination to get an idea of what is up ahead. Remind yourself that although winter is coming, it will not last forever. Do what you can to reduce your stress and to strengthen your bonds with family and friends. Back before the advent of grocery stores and central heating, people really counted on those bonds, which could be the difference between making it through the winter or perishing. So, know who is really there for you, and count your blessings.

December: Oak Moon
Also known as the Cold or Long Night Moon, the Oak Moon is a time for hope and healing. This time of year the Moon has reign over the Earth, because there are more hours of night than day. Our thoughts turn to the rebirth of the light and the longer days that are promised after the winter solstice. Women who have become pregnant in the spring are about to give birth and will probably want to focus their energies on delivering a healthy baby. This is the time of year to complete something you have worked hard on and to make sure that the task is truly completed, all the details dealt with. It's also a great time to let go of old patterns or problems and start anew. If something has been eating at you for a long time, work to give it up at this time. Let go of the negative and let the light of longer days shine inside you. Working with children in a nurturing way can be very rewarding and healing.

BLUE MOON - Fact or Fiction?

"Once in a Blue Moon" I could not count how many times I heard that phrase. Knowing what it means has been a question in my mind for many, many years. Well I am here to set the record straight on this mysterious phenomenon. Historically the Blue Moon was considered unlucky and a real nuisance when it occurred at various times of the year and upset scheduling of church festivals. In love songs the Blue Moon is often a symbol of sadness and loneliness. The first appearance in print of this expression goes back to the time of Shakespeare, when some folks felt that sometimes the moon visually appeared blue in the sky. Although the expression dates all that way back, it has only recently come to mean the second Full Moon in one month. Blue Moon seems to be a truly modern piece of folklore, old folklore it is not, but real folklore it is.
The Blue moon is not as mysterious as would seem to be implied - it is simply the occurrence of two full moons in one calendar month. This would happen every two and a half years, but this could vary by as much as three months. Understanding why the thirteenth moon is called "Blue" takes us back to ancient Egypt. They regarded thirteen a lucky number and stood for transformation (we consider it now evil or death). As the years progressed the lucky number 13 turned unlucky. I am sure you are aware today that there are 13 lunar months in the year, each of which is shorter, naturally, than the 12 calendar months. Anyways, to the Egyptians, when a blue moon showed up as the thirteen moon (once in a great while), it was an occasion for great rejoicing, especially when it appeared in the 13th month.
The Blue Moon is actually a astral oddity, owing to unusual conditions in the upper atmosphere, giving the moon a blue appearance. The Blue Moon usually occurs on July 31st, there was one on that date in 1985. Other years, which the Blue Moon appeared or will appear is 1890, 1939, 1988 and 1990, 2001, 2004.

The Dark Moon:
The Dark Moon is the time just before the end of one cycle and the beginning of the next. There are no actual days between cycles, the Dark Moon rests for a few days while gathering information for new ideas. This is when you can't see the moon at all in the heavens. Traditionally this is the time when no Magick is performed. A period to give yourself a break. Deep Meditation and vision questing can be performed then. To seal a spell during dark moon you could say something like: "I call on you, oh Crone so wise, One who rules the darkest skies. Come and be my treasured guest, And aid me on this magical quest."

The Black Moon -- Variable
A Black Moon occurs when there are two dark cycles of the moon in any given calendar month. It is believed that the second dark moon of a time of great power within the spiritual world and any magick worked during this time is especially powerful
Moon Void of Course
Basic rule is DO NOT do anything during this time. If you do and it works, consider yourself lucky. This is the time right before the moon enters a new sign (astrology sign) there is sort of a dead space. The moon is in a dimension/place between the worlds, there is not space, no time. Positive and negative energies don't work as they usually would, everything in the other worlds is all out of whack. Another annoying thing about this time is that there is no set time for it. It can last 10 minutes or 1/2 a day. The Moon is in between astrological signs, and the energies are not well defined. Some people become irrational in judging things, energies are scattered and erratic, things that seem perfectly logical may not be. Some basic things to follow when this phenomenon occurs is: Don't do any magickal workings. Don't make any major decisions or purchases. Don't make any major repairs. Don't begin or finish any rituals or spells

Eclipse
Basically any type of magick is good for performing at this time. The eclipse represents the perfect union of the sun and the moon. Long term goals are best worked, things you wish to achieve and that will take time to happen.

THE EIGHT (8) PHASES OF THE MOON...

1. The NEW Moon Phase:
The New Moon celebrates the rebirth of light. This is when the sun and moon are in the same place or they are in the same degree of the same sign. New Moon workings can be done from the day of the new moon to three and a half days after (better to do your magick on the days after and rest on the actual day). The new Moon always rises at sunrise, and the first quarter at noon, for full use of these energies stick to this time period. The New Moon is the time of new beginnings for your life. The New Moon is used for growth, healing, moving forward and prayers for success offered. The energy of the new moon is birth and its metaphor is spring. It's a good time to start new projects, begin relationships and plant gardens. You might find yourself feeling impulsive. The New Moon is used for personal growth, beauty, health, self-improvement, farms and gardens, job hunting, love and romance, networking, creative ventures, healing, the blessing of a new project or venture etc..
If done correctly success should be obtained by the first Full Moon. The days before a New Moon are good for being quiet and bringing things to a close. The days after the New Moon are good for putting things into motion and starting new.
**New Moon (see Dark Moon below) is as powerful in its own way as the Full Moon. It is a time for taking stock. It is a phase of hibernation, retreat, and contemplation. Avoid crowds and gatherings and seek a little time for yourself. Rest is crucial during the New Moon. Simple foods and quiet times are powerful healers.

2. The Crescent Moon Phase:
The Crescent Moon is poised for action, it energizes in your life new projects with incredible power and offers new challenges for you. Moon rises at midmorning, sets after sunset; for full use of these energies stick to this time period. This phase is related to the Imbolc Sabbat.. Workings for: Animals, business, change, emotions, expansion, growth, struggle, opportunity. It is the time in a cycle that you gather the wisdom learned in the new phase and communicate your intention to move forward. Light a candle. Write or read an affirmation. LISTEN & ABSORB. Commit to your goal.
matriarchal strength. Consciousness comes into the picture now with a little bit more light. In our own life cycle, the crescent moon symbolizes the period when you become aware that you're not part of your mother, that you are your own entity. A dawning realization shows you that you have a choice, that you can struggle against the established pattern. Psychologically, it's the beginning of individuation, the setting apart of the self. You may find it very important during this time to broach your own ideas. Some religions have important celebrations honoring the crescent moon.

3.The First Quarter Phase or Waxing Moon:
Seven days after the New Moon, this phase can add balance and considerable magic to something that is new in your life. Moon rises at noon, sets at midnight; for full use of these energies, stick between this time period. The waxing phase means it's time to plant your chosen seed. The First Quarter Phase will help you get a move on your life and to let go of your past. WAXING MOON: This is a good time for "securing" magick. When it moves from New Moon to Full Moon. If you wish to gain something, do your magick during a waxing moon. A time of beginnings, health and healing, psychic awareness, beauty fertility and all magickal workings. This moon has a "pulling in" effect. Good for love, increasing wealth and health and all things positive, courage, elemental magick, friends, luck, and motivation. It's a good time to work efforts involving fresh starts, inspiration, new love, friendships, business-building, and financial property. It also provides suitable conditions for healing, increasing physical stamina, developing psychism, and garden planting. To seal a spell during waxing moon you could say something like: " Oh, Maiden Moon, Now hear my plea: As you grow, my spell enhance - And Power it's magic with your dance." This is a time when things come to a head -- some might call it crisis time. You feel the friction in the air, but that's not necessarily bad -- friction starts a movement toward solution. Awareness is still moving toward understanding. It's the time to implement ideas and look at possible solutions if you've identified the knot in a situation.

4. The Gibbous Phase:
This moon phase is used to evaluated the new growth in your life and eliminating what doesn't work. Moon rises in mid-afternoon, sets around 3 A.M.; for full use of these energies, stick between this time period. The Gibbous phase let's you know that the most powerful time for magic is almost at it's peak. Workings: Courage, patience, peace, and harmony. This phase is related to the Sabbat of Beltane. Now we move to analysis and evaluation, understanding why we've taken action. We appraise our personal progress. This is more intellectual than the first quarter, which was dynamic and intuitive.

5. Full Moon Phase:
The Full Moon (180 - 224 degree's) reflects the golden glory of my being (Vampyress). This phase lights the sky for ritual or planting. Moon rises at sunset, sets at dawn; for full use of these energies, stick with this time period. A good time for magick of all kinds, including protection, love, healing, Artistic endeavors, beauty, fitness, change, decisions, children, competition, dreams, families, health, knowledge, legal undertakings, romance, money, motivation, psychic power, self-improvement, purification, psychic awareness and travel. Oils and herbs (crystal's too) will be energized if bathed in the Full Moon's light. Full moon magick is used for Banishing unwanted influences in your life, Protection Magick, Divination, Planning, Releasing and working backward in time. The best Full Moon magick can be conjured for seven days: The 3 days prior to the full moon, the night of the Full Moon itself and 3 days after the Full Moon. Combine efforts to complete your short termed projects at this time. The full Moon always rises at sunset. This phase is the last of the big energy in this cycle available for growth, so use it! To seal a spell during full moon you could say something like: "Abundant Mother, Moon so bright, Hear my plea upon this night, Your fertile power, lend this spell, Make it potent, strong, and well." The full moon is the pinnacle, the climactic point. Now we get answers. You'll see a lot of extremes now. The way you interpret those has a lot to do with your inner landscape -- you reflect what's going on around you. A lot tends to happen around the full moon: more people end up in emergency rooms, the police scanners go wild. But it's also a time for romance. The full moon is also associated with fertilization and ovulation. Keywords for the Full phase are: fulfillment, illumination, realization, experience. It is the time in a cycle that you are given a clear view so that you can make adjustments to put you back on track to manifesting the goals you set at the new phase. Go to a public place. Do something with a friend. LISTEN. Receive awareness. Understand others.

6. Disseminating Moon Phase:
The Disseminating Moon indicates that it is time to start drawing in or "letting go". Moon rises at mid-evening, sets at mid-morning; for full use of these energies, stick between this time frame. As the moon starts to shrink, it is time for you to mature. Meditate on the removal of bad habits; Healing; Earth Mother Workings: Addiction, decisions, divorce, emotions, stress, protection. This phase is related to the Sabbat of Lammas. By now, we've learned our lesson, received the information. The question is, what to do with it? A strong desire to demonstrate to others what you've learned makes this a time to share you knowledge. Your intellect is in charge: You see, you acknowledge, you tell somebody. Keywords for the Disseminating phase are: demonstration, distribution, sharing and introspection. It is the time in a cycle to further process your advancement toward your goal by looking at the results of your adjusting action taken at the Full phase. During this phase you gain clarity by sharing what you've learned through awareness. Demonstrate your power of abundance by giving back to your community. Visit friends. Distribute your knowledge. SHARE. Reach out and touch someone.

7. Third Quarter Phase or Waning Moon:
The Third Quarter Moon is still very powerful and wise, but no longer fruitful. This Moon continues to power banishing rituals, ridding illness, negative thoughts and bad, bad habits. (grin) Now is the time to weed the negative out of your life and out of your garden (if you have one). WANING MOON: When it moves from Full Moon to New Moon. The psychic vibrations are still there just lower and have the effect of "pulling away" on things. The best time for getting rid of anything in your life. The time for banishments of habits, addictions, disease and negative thoughts. Jealousy, guilt, and hurts are released under the waning moon. If you want to lose something (bad habits, negative energy...) do your magick during the waning moon. Also destructive magick, banish negativity, separation. This energy works well for efforts that involve dieting, obliterating stress or depression, or the elimination of dysfunctional relationship patterns. To seal a spell during waning moon you could say something like: "Oh aging one of grace, now hear: With your guidance, this spell steer. Remove all blocks and hesitation, And take it to it's destination." Associated Goddesses: Callieach, Banshee, Hecate, Kali, Morrigan. Magickal Attributes: BANISHING Releasing the old, removing unwanted negative energies, wisdom, psychic ability, scrying, reversing circumstances. Workings on this day are for banishing magick, for ridding oneself of addictions, illness or negativity, physical and psychic cleansings.

***If you must do an increase spell during the waning moon, get a black candle and burn it for at least 15 minutes first to create a vacuum to draw what you want into it. It won't work as well, but try it if you are desperate*

8. Balsamic Moon Phase:
The Balsamic Moon phase provides the days needed to go inside yourself and find out what drives your love and hatred, so you can understand them and move on. Moon rises at 3 A.M. and sets at mid-afternoon; for full use of these energies, stick between this time frame. You must prepare yourself for the rebirth of the next cycle, even if you feel out of touch with everyone else. Workings: Addictions, change, divorce, enemies, justice, obstacles, quarrels, removal, separation, stopping stalkers and theft. This phase is related to the Samhain Sabbat.. We have another word for this moon phase -- Karma. This is the closing, the conclusion of the cycle during which you reap what you've sown. If you haven't learned the lessons, taken the action called for in the first seven phases, you can't move on. People born during this phase often have a mission, something bigger than themselves that they must carry out. This energy is greater than yourself. This time, the outcome of whatever's going on is not yours to decide. You have already taken the steps that set up this outcome. It's a time to release the past.
