Necromancy

Hello Everyone,
I was wondering whether anyone here is willing to teach me a darker subject named "Necromancy". Please do mail me if you can, but be warned, if you send me a message saying something I know yo be wring I will continue to play along for my own personal amusement. It's cruel but it teaches honesty. So if anyone would be so kind as to let me be taught by them please feel free to mail me.

Thanks for Reading, and I hope to hear from you
Blessings!

There is a great deal of writings by Aleister Crowley. But take a warning. Crowley was a drug addict, a sex maniac, and quite insane.

Eliphas Levi was a famous necromancer. It's worth it to read his book on transcendental magick. Keep in mind he was a Catholic Priest that was...well kicked from the Church for his work in the occult. He was very knowledgeable, but his faith heavily influences his writtings. Read him with a critical but open mind.

Most of what you will find is renaissance necromancy which is steeped in Christianity. If you research them, you'll find a lot of biblical reference, which just means you must study the idea of the ritual/spell and create your own in a pagan context, of whatever it is you believe.

I would stay away from Crowley's work. As Brysing stated he was insane. He claimed to be the reincarnation of Eliphas Levi, but the truth is he just idolized him. Crowley was wise in many ways but he was extreme and power got to his head, and corrupted his mind. I can't read his books for too long, it makes my stomach hurt (I'm an empath). If you read him, be overly cautious. His own magick caused him to go through wives like hotcakes! And he died at an early age. He had a god complex like no other!

However, necromancy was also practiced in ancient Egypt as well as Greece. I would suggest looking into historical texts of both Egypt and Greek religion and practice. The Egyptian Book of the Dead discusses the ritual practices that the Egyptians performed. Their belief of the soul is amazingly complex. It's worth the research, seeing that necromancy is all about death and the soul/spirit. Any necromancy you find has probably originated from the Egyptians.

Stay away from the Necromonicon. The only one in existence was written by H.P. Lovecraft, a fiction writer. And the book is entirely ficticious.

There was supposedly a real Necromonicon hundreds of years ago seized by the Vatican and destroyed (or stuffed up in their non-public archives). But this is just hearsay, no proof.

Unfortunately there is very little out there about necromancy. My best advice to you is to get into the "spiritual communication" side of necromancy and gain information through the knowledge of the spiritual world. It is what most good modern necromancers do.

Study death, the soul, and spirit in every single way possible. Research all cultures and find the links between them. Or decide for yourself which one comes closest to the truth. By understanding those three completely, you'll gain enough knowledge to successfully call yourself a necromancer soon enough.

Necromancy is a very dark side of magick, and It would not be wise to raise someone who doesn't want to be raised. I would contact the spirit you wanted to raise, most of the time once a spirit passes on it doesn't want to be raised. There are some serious consequences to raising a spirit that doesn't wish to be raised. If you are ignorant enough to try this on a spirit who doesn't wished to be raised goddess help you.

Crowley's early writings are very good;exceptionally so! It was later, when he became so extreme, that it caused the arguments (and fights!) with Gerald Gardner. It was these extremes of Crowley which led Gardner, and Doreen Valiente, to formulate the modern Craft of Wicca in the early part of the 20th century.

Further. Sorry,WhiteRaven, but Crowley did not die "at an early age". I remember his death being reported in the Press. It would have been in the late 1940s. I seem to remember he was about 72 or 73. Not as old as some; but hardly "early". I was 14 at the time, so my memory may not be accurate. But I do remember his death.

I am currently reading Levi's books, and they are amazing reads, I would suggest it to anyone, but in Dogma Et Rituel de la haunte magic Part I there is only a brief insight into the subject. I thank white again for giving me The names of these books a week or so back. I hope that in the second there is more about it :)
