I am excited to see this, but in SoM we usually don't make covens, that's certain people's jobs.

However, this is a good idea but... the thing is were all supposed to teach different things, yes bringing like minded people will help, but will you able to handle some views in thus, or disagreement if you make a coven like this?

Good luck!

I don't see this as a good idea. There are many who are still questioning gender, while others only learning about there being any difference. I don't believe it a good idea to separate, as it has nothing in benefit to learning about magick. I am not against anyone or anybody, no matter what on this subject, but I just don't believe it to be good idea. There are too many real life problems to cause separation in the world, why create one in the magickal community?

There certainly are covens who are open to LGBT/etc, communities (I am a part of it) and I do think it could be a good idea if some folk were to have a coven with a focus on identity and how it works in magic. I feel it really couldn't hurt to share information about such matters and when it comes to the LGBT/etc. communities, a place of refuge is very important as we don't always get that in our daily lives. In a sense, that is what many people use this site for when it comes to magic. A place of refuge.

I don't encourage to make this coven. Why?Because if a beginner on this site read this post,he will think that other covens discriminate people and for that the site had a coven special for gay etc.

Every coven is open for people.Every coven don't discriminate people by color of skin or other things.

If a person says they like brunette hair, does that mean everyone who does not say they like brunette hair hate or is "against it"? No.

It boils down to is that people are against is the site making an LGBT/etc. coven which can't happen in the first place because no new covens are made. Quite frankly, it's not anyone's business to tell people they can't incorporate that into existing covens, make their own website, or privately acknowledge a group of people who are open to it.

No way! I am gay myself and I don't want to be isolated from everybody else! I have never felt bad about my sexuality on this website and I don't want to be part of such coven. It has nothing to do with magic, it is irrelevant and useless. Plus LGBT are part of the society so they can be part of it, they don't have to separate themselves. I don't think it is such a great idea..

I personally don't think its necessary. I say this because there are many, and I mean many, including myself GLBT people on here. GLBT people fit into our current covens perfectly, many of whom are in leadership positions. Practitioners can't care less what someone's sexual preference is. We are here to practice and or study different religions, traditions and practices. I don't think it has or ever will be a problem here :)

Secondly, I think creating a coven for GLBT members is reverse discrimination. We are all equal in society today, our past, our inequality has been gone away with. If one starts a coven whereby only certain members are allowed, it can constitute as reverse discrimination on the grounds of sexual preference. We will then be discriminating againsts heterosexual people.

Therefore, I don't think this is a good idea :)

The original post in this thread is three years old.

And I will mention again that Petrarca, the Site Administrator, has decided that there are already sufficient Covens on SOM and that no new ones will be permitted. So arguning over whether or not to have such a coven here is kind of pointless.
