The Green Man resources

I've recently been reading the Green Man by William Anderson (1990), and couldn't find much information on the author. Does anyone know of a good/reliable source for more information on the green man, or anything more about his appearances in religion and folk customs? Or even, if anyone knows if my current reading or if the author himself is reliable, that would be brilliant too!
