You have certainly come into a friendly community which is frequented by people of many differing beliefs.
I personally look at magic more for internal change rather than external. There are those who believe it is nothing more than a form of psychology. I am not convinced of that strictly, but I do think the ultimate aim is to improve who the person is, rather than what the person experiences.
Of course, you'll encounter all sorts here. So feel free to ask questions, seek resources, and learn what you desire.
Something I believe is important: Magic is not necessarily connected to religion or spiritual belief. Someone may practice magic and not practice any religion, or even believe in the supernatural. That said, someone may practice magic, have it directly and thoroughly intertwined with the religion of their choice, and work with a number of gods and a plethora of non-physical entities.
My favorite definition of magic is that it is change in accordance with will. This change is subtle; it is not change, such as becoming a vampire or growing wings. It is not change like traveling in time or teleportation. These things are fiction. Magic is, however, change such as increasing the likelihood of success in an endeavor, or becoming a more grounded person.
So good luck on your journey. I hope you find your truth.
