I was wondering if herbal oils can be used in spells and how to tell wat oil is used for wat. Can someone help me? I am interested in learning herbal magic cus it's a newer magic to me that I've looked into and I also garden.
Essential oils are absolutely used in spells and other practices. Generally the source of the oil still carries its representations. For example, peppermint oil will have the same correspondences as using sprigs of fresh peppermint.
What some people do is dilute essential oils in a carrier oil. Essential oils are quite expensive, and potent. A little can go a very, very long way. A drop or two in a (relatively) neutral carrier oil means the use of the essential oil can be extended considerably.
Some good carrier oils are olive oil (for more immediate use), grape seed oil, nut oils, and more. Be aware of the volatility of the oil you are using as a carrier, as some will go rancid more quickly, and some will have a scent of their own which may not always work well with an essential oil.
I use essential oils to bless and dress a candle to enhance its effectiveness. You would have to study up on when properties that you desire for your workings. Also the correct correspondences for the day, purpose, Moon Phase etc. I am sure there will be an article on oils and candle magick in the "articles" at the top of the page.
A perfect project to put in your Book of Shadows.
Agreed with the info already posted on this thread.
Additionally, if your spell affects a person for instance, using an oil made from something they like/hate, will help to attract/repel that individual also. This also includes yourself and your preferences/dislikes.
