My first wand was a peice of drift wood i found in the bush by am old river, my second was also a peice of drift wood i found only it was on a beach and my third was made out of a thin copper pipe i found and wraped in leather. they can be made of what you want them to be made of ok, just follow you feelings and make it the way you want it.
My first wand worked really well. I just found it on the ground at the park. I used it to paint the neighbor's cat blue! Then, I was using magik to cheat at basketball when I was playing with me brother so he snapped my wand in half. My dad then carved a brand new wand, but it's like 3 feet long. At first, it didn't work so well, but I got used to it. I also have this bracelet that I charmed and it works almost like a wand.

It's up to you if you want to paint it, you don't have to. My wand is just a simple branch with white yarn wrapped around the handle, it can be as fancy or as simple as you want or need it to be. :)
My first wand was a human rib I found in a graveyard. (No, I did not dig it up. It was behind a tree for some reason.)
I painted it this brilliant blood red color.
It works like...magick...

What ever you do, don't buy one. If it is more natural, the better. Any thing you make or create, they are homages to the Goddess (or who ever is your deity).
My wand from a tree is a lot better than my bought one from a shop, despite both being cleansed and purified.
