"Witch" is a title some magick practitioners take on if they like. Educating yourself by reading credible material is how you become one. Some good authors I would recomend are Scott Cunningham, Raymond Buckland, and Donald Michael Kraig. Some books you can find as free pdfs online. Others you can sometimes find at your local library. If all else fails you can often times find some cheap ones online such as on Amazon or Ebay or in real life like at Bookman's.

Like what Syren said, the word "witch" is a title that many practitioners choose to use for themselves whether ot not they actually practice witchcraft or not. Witchcraft being a grouping of practices such as spell casting, energy work, correspondences (moon, color), candle making, and other such practices of the like. That being said you can be two types of a witch. A person who practices magic and chooses to title themselves as such, or a person who practices witchcraft.

The authors that Syren suggested to you (Buckland, Cunningham, Kraig) are all quite credible occult authors. They offer excellent foundation blocks of learning that will offer you the knowledge to become a legitimate practitioner.

I'm planning on doing a witch spell(just waiting to retrieve my necklace back from my sister) and once it had worked, I was going to put a spell on my mother(memory spell I think would work but I'm open to suggestions) that would let her allow me to practice witchcraft so that I could get strong and help my friends. I actually had this one dream where the witch spell worked and I was a happy little witch that made potions and spells and I would help my friends with their struggles. I might sound naive right now, I'm sorry.

Cyle, you are aware that "witch" is just a name.

Iin order to be a witch you need to be practicing witchcraft, and in many cases those who practice choose not to take the title of "witch".

Casting a spell on someone won't make them a witch, only practicing witchcraft makes them a witch.

I'm fully aware of that and that's why I want to put a spell on my mom so that I can practice witchcraft in my home without worrying about her walking in on me

boy you need all the help you can get my friend. one 'witch' is just a title [like saying 'i want to cast a spell to become a christian' it doesn't work like that] if you want to be a witch, call yourself a witch. you don't need a spell or ceremony to become one [this isn't the movies i'm afraid] witches are people who practice some form of witchcraft, so studying/practicing some type of witchcraft/paganism will make you a witch. [not all witches cast spells either]

now why do you want to be a witch? to cast spells only? there's a lot more to it than that. to help people? you're on a better track, many witches are healers and go into science/medical fields. but i would do a bit of soul searching before deciding you want to be a witch. it sounds like most of your information is coming from tv and not factual sources.

casting on your mother is also not wise. many witches follow a rule to not do harm to others, and what you hope to do is manipulate your mother into doing what you want which isn't very nice now is it? i'm sure she would understand if you sat her down and explained your reasons why [but you should research a bit more first so you actually understand what it means to be a witch]

if you have any questions, or would like any links/videos on basic information, let me know, i don't mind helping you find your footing, it can be a really confusing path if you don't have a direction [or to paraphrase the Cheshire Cat 'if you don't know where you're going, it doesn't matter which path you take as any path will take you there']

A close friend of mine was a witch and I looked up to her and I always wanted to become a witch with her. I can also protect the people I care about while I'm at it
