It is generally believed that spells can indeed be influenced by the moon or many other things. Here's something I wrote about Magical Correspondences with links to more articles about moon phases and other things that you might find useful:

Put simply magical correspondences act as tools that augment the energy that the magic user is pushing into any spell or other magical working. Magical correspondences include such things as colors, herbs, days of the week, planetary symbols, Elements, etc. Understanding and using such magical correspondences is central to successful spellwork. Although spells can certainly be worked without using any of these correspondences, the more correspondences one can include in a magical working the stronger the energies that can be built into a spell. Some Ceremonial Magicians will wait for years for the proper conjunction of the planets while gathering all ofther possible correspondences to insure the most power in their working. So keeping tables like this in your BOS and using them regularly will help to improve your own magical abilities.

it is believed the phase of the moon can push/pull the natural flow of energy like the tides. during the waxing moon phase [new moon to full] spells to attract things into your life are best. the waning phase [full moon to new] is best for repelling energies. the new moon being the peak for repelling spells [banishment, curses, weight loss, stop a bad habit] while the full moon is the peak for attracting spells [luck, love, money, so on] however, should you cast a banishment during the waxing moon the spell can still work, it just requires a bit more effort [think about when an airplane is flying against the jet stream, the 3 hour flight becomes a 3 and a half hour flight. when it flies with the jet stream the 3 hour flight is only 2 and a half]
