In my beliefs, all you need to protect yourself is:
* Some belief in an entity/deity/ God
*belief and confidence in yourself, if you are confident fear will not be an issue for you, as well as you being able to trust with every fibre of your being that it comes from Divine.

For protection spells there are a number of ways to go about it.

• Candle Magick
• Other forms of Sympathetic Magick
• War Water
• Witches Black Salt
• Herb/Stone Sachet

So as you can see there are many ways to go about it without any deity/spirit needed. Those are optional, many witches/occultists actually consider themselves to be atheistic and rely on themselves and what they can do with naturally occuring properties to use energy to their advantage.

It kind of depends on what you're trying to protect yourself from. Maybe be a little more specific, or try looking around the site first? There are lots of great techniques here for a variety of situations.
