Hello MagicalNeko,

If you are asking about summoning spirits, then you are not ready. Summonings are not a game, it can be very dangerious, especially if you are not careful. You should learn how to banish before even thinking about summoning. Now, anything you summon to you is a form of spirit, nothing physical can be summoned to you, that would be impossible.

I won't go very much in detail with this, because I don't want to feed you the wrong information, but, I don't think you see the spirits like you see another human, it's more of a feeling of knowing they are there, but there could be more to it.

I will say that asking these questions means you aren't ready to summon... "right now". This doesn't mean after a little research into an entity or two, you couldn't be ready shortly.

Let's clarify two things:

  • Summoning is not the only way to make contact with a spirit. You can simply ask them to come to you, much as one might ask a friend to sit beside them.
  • Everyone interacts with non-corporeal beings, spirits, and entities in their own way. Some feel the presence, others enter trances and communicate, and still others communicate through dreams.

There are a few things to consider long before you decide which spirit(s), you'd like to summon.

Firslty, are you working within a specifc pantheon, religion, or practice? In certain practices there is an order to which they can be summoned, invoked, or addressed. Other practices require you build a relationship with certain spirits before you can move forward to other spirits. You need to understand you path, or if you are without a path, the path your spirits will be coming from.

Now, assuming you've looked further into the aforementioned, you can determine your intentions. Intentions can range from simply making contact, to bulding a veneration based relationship, to a working relationship. What kind of relationship you can form depends entirely on the entity and your needs/desires. Some entities are willing to do the magical version of a "hook-up", where you trade a serivce for a libation. In my experience, however, many like to build some kind of continued relationship, this can allow any works for either participant to be more effective. It also allows you to build a less formal relationship, many times resembling a mentor and apprentice, or older and younger family members. Each connection is different and reading about other people's experiences can be helpful in determining what that spirit usually prefers. It is noteworthy that some spirits are more aligned to certain tasks, while others are generally helpful.

Well, you've settled on an entity and a kind of relationship. Where in the world do you go from here? Well, do some research into the specific entity and then when you feel ready, look again. You need to understand if this is an entity you can simply call into a room, or if it is one that is more traditional. Traditional meaning that it likes to be summoned under a certain set of circumstances. These circumstances can range from celestial alignments to specifc ritual practices that take before, during, and after the summoning. Regardless of the spirit's preferences, I suggest being clean (unless the spirit is noted to prefer you dirty) and protected. Cleanliness can be as simple as taking a shower and air-drying or ritualisticly cleansing an entire room, or even your home. Protection is just as varied, possibly more so. This can be an amulet carried, a lamp burning, or a circle drawn.

Now, go forth and do some stuff, stop sitting around like a stool.
