Simple question. Can i honour someone as in my elder which is not a blood relative as my ancestor.I only wanted to know because would my blood relatives be offended when i put someone outside my family on the same pedestal as them. Thanks in advance.
If they're not a blood relative, they don't meet the strict definition of 'ancestor', which by default IS blood ties. Personally in my own life I've come across people I consider closer to me than family members. Family sometimes doesn't like the kind of thing you're talking about, varies because people and families are different to each other, but I think you should be true to yourself and your own feelings.
Personally I think you should honour whoever you see fit to honour.
In many cultures elders aren't necessarily blood related, so your honouring an elder who is not blood would unlikely be frowned upon. Keep in mind that this is your journey and you can tailor it to suit you.
