I'm fairly used to seeing creatures that linger just outside the veil but it seems I've encountered something rather odd. I've got a shadow like figure much like a wolf or large dog following me everywhere I go. At first I assumed it was a coincidence but it's began perching on my furniture and looming over me in my sleep. It doesn't seem hostile but I have no clue what it is. It doesn't communicate... it just watches me with unearthly yellow eyes. It's both unnerving and slightly comforting. Any input would be great.

Spirits don't have to use words to communicate and often do so through passing sensations and emotions in my case (though other times I can hear and see them mentally). Have you researched hounds in folklore? There are a ton of examples ranging from ill omens, to protectors, to signs of change - it all depends on the origin of the folklore you're looking into. At the very least, you can ask the spirit which one applies to them and figure out what they aren't associated with through a process of elimination. In my experience, spirits tend to be vocal about things that are "wrong" or not to their liking. Also keep in mind that this spirit might just be taking a hound form and possibly isn't related to any folklore (as "the spirit world" is so much more vast than the physical plane).
At any rate, don't assume anything when it comes to spirits. Pretense isn't really a thing most of them do (again, in my case and in the case of some others).
See, I've tried all that. I've meditated, used a medium to try and even out some kind of energy, used cards, amulets and even a few incantations from my shadow book... nothing. It follows me everywhere but says nothing. I don't know if its unable to or just disregards everything I attempt. I don't want to be forceful with something potentially dangerous. All I know is the feelings I get when it's here aren't hostile per say... I just can't put my finger on it but my familiar is fearful of it.
I have what looks like a shadow bird that perches over me hence the name raven.. My dog trembles because of this thing and i have a huge german shephard. I talked to a hoodoo priestess and she told me its a guardian
