So I have read the pictorial key to tarot by rider waite, and the little booklet that comes with the deck as well. I have yet to work on spreads becaues I want to get a better understanding/meaning of the cards first. Looking for any tips/books/youtube videos, that can further my understanding and knowing into tarot or any advice? anyone?

Don't worry so much as what books say a tarot cards means or represents but trust more on your intuition.

I have The Rider Tarot Deck too and it is the only tarot deck that I have & use as of right now. The booklet is somewhat of importance especially for beginner readers. The booklet describes the cards and what they mean. It is the job of the reader to interpret the cards & the meanings into the situation by the seeker when performing a reading. Some older readers will eventually stop relying on the meanings in the booklet and/or have the meanings of the cards memorized. You can also make your own personal spreads or use a spread of someone else. I like to use personal spreads to help better my own connection with the cards.

An important tip to note is to let the cards do all the work. You should not try to force them. Let them tell you the number of times to shuffle and go with what you feel you should do when making spreads & giving readings. Another useful tip is that the card that is used to represent the seeker is called the significator (which is usually a Major Arcana card). Some readers like to separate the Major Arcana and the Minor Arcana into two separate piles (which a lot fo tutorials suggest), but some readers see no need to do this and will not separate the two Arcanas.

Personally, I separate the Major Arcana from the Minor Arcana with my readings because a lot of my spreads have a "focal point". This "focal point" is the center of the reading; the seeker. The seeker is represented by the Major Arcana and the Minor Arcana are used as the answers to the reading and surround the Major Arcana card in some way. This is dependent on the kind of spread I use.

Best of luck!

Do you have any links to these spreads, I tried googling tarot spreads and got nothing. Its weird how you said you separate the major/minor because I did exactly that when I got the cards. How do you do it your way. Do you do a few cards of the spread major then use the minor to attribute to the causes? Thanks cowboy boots,

Thing is Inner, I tried doing the intuition reading and I found it a tad difficult. Id get feelings, thoughts or pictures. But my brain/mind was challenging the process. here is an example of the first reading I did of a past present future.

I drew the cards and forget what card I drew but in present a dog kept popping up in my head. But then id think to much about how is this relevant and if it relates to the present at all. I then ignored the thought an then later told my friend for some reason I was getting a dog and she said she is actually getting a dog within a day or two that I was unaware of.

Thank you both for the advice, does anybody else have anything else to add?

You can google "tarot spreads" and look at the pictures in the Google Search. There are 22 Major Arcana cards and 56 Minor Arcana cards. I put them into two separate piles and shuffle the pile or both depending on the spread which is chosen. When I am done with them, I keep them separate and warp a rubberband around the cards. Out of my current spreads, I use one Major Arcana card for the spreads that require it. I typically draw a Major Arcana card first and have it faced up. Then I draw how many Minor Arcana cards I need and surround the Major Arcana card with them. You can check my pictures on my profile for a better understanding of it.

You really don't have to worry about the meaning of the cards after a while. I have found a book at books a million that covers all of tarot, numerology and a few other dealings with fortune telling. The name say it all. Tarot and dividation.

Hey Nodnarb, just wanted to remind you that at your finger tips is one of the biggest resources you can possibly find, there are tons of websites, articles and ebooks on the internet about tarot reading, but I know sometime it gets overwhelming trying to take in everyone`s interpretations.
I like your idea of intuition reading, but instead try focusing on the pictures, look at all the imageries and colour, nothing is there just for decoration. And maybe this will be useful in developing your own interpretation of the cards. I like the Rider deck in particular because I find all the symbolism etc. portrays a very clean message.
To start with the major arcanas, I beleieve a popular method people use is to see it as a narrative of an infant entering this world and their journey and their development depicted by the cards. ie. the fool represents the infant and as you go through the major arcanas numerically he grows older and learns.

A book that helped me along the way and I beleive many tarot readers would have heard of this book is:
78 degrees oF Wisdom, by Rachael Pollack

I think its great for both beginners and more advanced readers, and I believe you can find an ecopy of this online somewhere.
