I'd like to note that it is not possible to create fire or control it, you might as well forget everything that you saw on shows like "Charmed". Also, I recommend learning the basics of magick, how it works, and what is possible and not possible; try The Basics Expanded and Starting Out in the General Info forum. If your looking to create fire however, try using a lighter; works like magick.
There seems to be a lot of SoM members who want to "play with fire". But they don't know what fire actually is! The only way to "control" fire is in a fire-grate, or other "enclosed space".
So what,exactly, is fire?
It is an explosive. That is, it changes a solid into a gas.
It is classed as a "Low" explosive; because the change is by combustion, and is "slow". (Although a raging forest fire is a bit swift!) As opposed to "high" explosive where the change is instant.
Just like "high" explosive, the "low" explosive "destroys"; and is very, very dangerous! Not something to be "played about with".
A small fire for warmth, yes. A "controlled" bonfire, yes. (But stand well clear!)
But messing about with fire is extremely idiotic!
as mentioned you cannot use magick to control fire, however, there are spells that use fire such as candle spells, or a spell where you burn herbs or other items used in the spell. creating fire from nothing or turning a candle flame into a giant fire creature to impress/scare people doesn't happen.
You can create fire and control it, despite what some have said here. However, you will never be able to accomplish this on this physical plane of existence. Study visualization and meditation techniques and you'll eventually be able to dance in fire, just not on this plane of existence. I frequently use this type of "pyromancy," so to speak, when I call upon fire spirits for certain workings.
As for spells to protect you from fire... I believe it was Aleister Crowley who said "Magick is the art of probability enhancement." Don't try to cast a "Level 7 Protection From Fire" spell and then set yourself on fire for the amusement of your friends. You can, however, cast a spell that will reduce the probability that you are injured in the event of a real fire. Just don't test it out.
