I would avoid summoning the goode folk until one has mastered warding and protections, as well as done serious research into what the fae are. Folktales and legends are to be taken seriously.
They are a range of spirits, and quite easy to offend. They range from the wights of the land, to small animal/child-like beings (gnomes), to the spirits of the dead, to the watchers, or fallen angels. They are not tinkerbells, but rather beings that operate differently than human morality.

A better place to start is with the book "A Witch'es Guide to the Fairy Folk" by Edain McCoy. It mentions many folk traditions and lore. It describes how to ease in to the fae as well as meditations. It explains offerings, how you can use them in your magickal workings, their backgrounds, and it also has a list of different fae folk from many many cultures. Its an excellent book.
