Wand or Athame?
By:
I have been reading a lot lately, about casting the circle and all the tools, but as I increase the amount of sources, things start to get a little contradictory.
The one thing that has stayed in my mind and cannot clarify is that some sites say that you CANNOT (and like that, it's like terribly wrong) use the wand to cast the circle (that is mark it out); while other state that you can either use the wand or the athame... I'm a little confused by it.

Can you use the wand to mark out the circle edges? Or you do that JUST with the athame? and in that case, what do you use the wand exactly for?

Thanks everyone, blessed be.

I don't mark out the edges of a circle with anything, a circle is just energy, any circle that you mark out is simply to make it clear to you that the circle is actually there.

I use my wand and my athame to create a circle, but this is only for energy manipultion and not marking it out.

Both a wand and athame are used in energy chanelling, used as an extention to yourself they can greatly help circle castings and energy work.

Yeah, by marking it out i meant creating the energy circle, not actually marking it out with a line or something visible (although it's useful for me, because i tend to forget where i delimited my circle some times).

I use both because they are both for energy manipulation. I have heard those that say you can only use a sword or athame, while others claim you have to use a wand. Some people even have wooden athames (a step between a wand and athame).

I think it all depends on what you prefer, I find a wand less harsh, so I prefer to use this, but others will differ.

Honestly you don't need anything at all to cast a circle, so if hands are just as good as a wand or athame, I would say they were interchangeable.

This is because there is no one unifying way. Things differ tradition to tradition, even coven to coven.

So try them out, see what works. Think on what these two tools represent and their functions.

I personally don't cast circles, but rather practice compass round and tread the mill. The stang is the tool I use to cast the compass.

Thank you so much.... I knew it wasn't necessary to use a tool to cast the circle (use fingers), but i wanted to clear that out.
