They're used pretty interchangeably, they're basically the same thing, an object you carry or wear that is infused with energy to attract or repel energy. [like wearing a pentacle for protection, or carrying a rabbits foot for luck] I think the difference is amulets are generic [protect me from harm] and give off a consistent energy through the month while talismans are more specific [keep the evil spirit away]
I've never really thought about the difference to be honest. I wear a Dragon pentacle necklace which I bless each full moon but that's about it as far as amulet/talisman work I've done.
I always thought there wasn't much of a difference as well.
Though I have read that amulets were more of a jewelry aspect (pentacles, rune jewelry, etc.) And that talismans were things that you make during ritual such as items made for a specific purpose (protection, luck, love, etc.) that you can carry, hang around the home, and wear. This can go along the lines of making small sachets, certain knots, beaded items, and things of the sort.
